Funny that some of the best advice posted regarding this situation comes from a "competitor".

Sage advice from Russ. I came very close to switching with all the panic, but then I took my finger of that button. There are some tempting offers right now, but we just had an update last month after a year full of updates, So we should be good for at least a year considering updates used to be less frequent. I'll take my time doing demos of other Daw's since it takes me longer than a week to put it through its paces to find what a program can do and what it can't. Thanks for the article

Couldn't see any links.

But I must say, Sonar could do EVERYTHING Pro tools did. Pro Tools is a copier who caters to the RICH PEOPLE. I would compare that Pro Tools daw to a DIAMOND on a ladies finger who just wants to look fancy, but when she walks around SHE AIN'T ALL THAT.

He's a guy with an opinion who has never used Sonar and doesn't know the first thing about it. He used Pro Fools FFS! I'm sorry but anyone who uses Pro Stools voluntarily for creativity is an instant idiot. It's the most uncreative thing ever devised for a computer. If you can get a noise out of Pro Stools, it doesn't make you a composer!

Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

I will never say a bad thing about ProTools ever again.  Thanks Pro Tools!

Edit: Studio One does NOT support the OMF format.  Never mind.

I was surprised to see such a well balanced article in a publication that has "Pro Tools" in its name.

I really don't understand responses like the above from someone who I assume is an adult. Russ doesn't need to know a lot about Sonar. He's just trying to help. Thankfully, the article was worth highlighting, as there are people who do appreciate it.

Excellent advice, but as a professional engineer with work lined up all the way into next year, I do need to start making decisions now before I start the next project. As much as I've hated older versions of Protools and swore I'd never use it as my main DAW (I own PT9), the PT12 features look very promising - especially the more geeky stuff like exporting and routing options. Quite an adventure of discovery we were all thrown into to suddenly! :O)

OMF is an ancient format with major limitations...it was good in its time, but check out the knowledgebase article in depth. IMHO SONAR's export functions work much better for transferring projects to other DAWs. That will be the subject of a future Sound on Sound column.

Also note that if both programs are open, you can drag and drop files from SONAR to Studio One Pro, as long as they're actual WAV files and not Groove Clips.

I agree with Craig that OMF is not a great format to use.  I have tried this with a couple of album projects and it just didn't work well.
