Sonar Forum Software Getting Harder To Deal With [solutions]
Is anyone else having a hard time with this? I'm still running Firefox 5 on all of my machines so that I can use this forum... and now the situation is getting more difficult as the latest flash (I've gotta use it whether I want to or not) will not install on Firefox 5... <sigh>... Too many sites use Flash and many of them are now not working and require that I install 11.4, which of course, I can't.... Is there a newer version of Firefox that will still work ok for quoting and replies in this forum? Thanks... Keni

Chrome is working fine for me Keni. Is there something you don't like about chrome?

There is supposedly a FireFox add on called IE Tab (or something like that) that makes the forum behave properly. I have yet to install it though. Chrome sends tracking info to Google so I don't use it because I think they have become too sneaky and evil.

Thanks Guyz... I've been avoiding Chrome for a number of reasons including Beepster's.... I prefer Firefox and I'm very disturbed that I'm being held back to version 5!!! What... Are they up to 11 or 12 now? <sigh>... I'll look for the Firefox Add on.... Maybe that will help a little, but the real resolution is that I soon 'must' move up to a new version of Firefox... If I remember correctly, the difference is that the quote function doesn't work? It's been so long since I tried that I was hoping one of the new versions finally worked and I just hadn't tried that one yet? ;-) Keni

SeaMonkey 2.01 here (Yeah, I'm a trail blazer alright) And no troubles like I had a year or so ago. Wish we could upload images and not have to reference a url.

Firefox 15.0.1. I do not think that FF will ever work properly until the forum software is updated. I have not bothered with the IE addon. I just add HTML tags by hand and gave up on quoting, although I guess that too could be manually added to a posting.

Pretty much nothing works except typing in text and hitting the Post Message button. You even have to type in HTML to get line breaks and as soon as you put HTML in the post the Quick Reply box returns an error message so you have to open the Full Version comment box. If you have any kind of link in your post you cannot edit the post. Smileys don't work (but I hate graphic smiley's anyway... at least in my posts). So yeah... it's a real pain but I tolerate it because I'm a big FF fan and you guys are worth the extra effort. Well, most of you. ;-p

@bitman... Very few forums allow image uploads to posts. It clogs up the servers.

Not to mention if people start hotlinking those images to other sites the servers take the extra traffic for stuff that has nothing to do with their site.

FYI you can edit FF posts with links in them if you remove all the HTML tag stuff around the link. Still a pain.

I'm using opera, only problem I have is the forum software sticking extra spaces in front of newlines and the occasional youtube video that doesn't work when I hit a google server that forces html5 on me. btw Hotlinking shouldn't be a problem for any website that has a webmaster worth his salt, it's trivial to generate an .htaccess file that blocks hotlinking for any other site not in an approved list of sites allowed to hotlink. I've run a fair share of forums, you can even get creative and show "another" image in place of the hotlinked image so they don't do that again (VERY Evil smily)

Keni Just FYI I'm still using FF 3.6.28 with Flash 11.1 even though Adobe site says that even 10.3 must have FF 4.0 or higher. Not had any issues at all either with this forum or flash not working.

FF 15 with IE tab here. I find quick reply a little funky for some things but the full version works great. This is entered via Quick reply, it's just the quoting is a little strange in it and I use the full version when quoting. I tried Chrome for a while, just didn't like it as much and still couldn't load images on here so came back to FF.

@Daryl... It's a cool little dealymadoo for a hundred bucks. The key action is a bit weird but I'll get used to it. I gotta learn how to map the mod wheel and fancy knobbies and stuff but it plugged right in and did it's thing without even having to install any extra gack and Sonar recognized it right away. It'll be great for adding little squeaks and squonks to my mayhem. I obviously won't be writing any piano concertos with it but it seems it'll do what I need it to. I did manage to crash Sonar pretty consistently browsing patches but I think that's a Dim Pro issue. Cheers.

I didn't read any of the replies Keni because honestly, if I do, I'm gonna lose my lunch all over my table, keyboard, mouse, and some blow-by on my monitor. Seriously ... after all this time everyone is still asking this question? Not busting balls ... but come on guys ... You can run multiple versions of Firefox on your system. You can have every version, and all points in between, up and running in different windows from Version 1.0 to whatever it is now. Personally, I love Internet Explorer 9. Everything seems faster in it. SO .......................... I have Firefox 3.6.23 installed with my home page set to the Sonar Forums, and that's all I use it for. Firefox 3.6.23 works perfectly with the forums here. Yes, I got a warning saying that the latest version of Flash does not work with 3.6.23, it only works with 4.0 and higher. So I just clicked Ok, and it installed the older version of Flash that does work with 3.6.23 and all is well. I just reinstalled FF on a fresh install of my system an hour ago and got that message, so I'm not sure where you're coming up with Flash not working on 5.0? When I installed Firefox, I changed the install directory to include the version number so I could keep track in case I got my Icons mixed up. It's really not a problem at all guys. Sheesh. Let's move on with this.

Here ... if it will help, I'll buy everyone a copy of Firefox 3.6.23 ... Hold on .... There ... done! Go here and download it, it's yours for free. A gift from dear ol' Bub. It's FireFox 3.6.23 English version. Sorry, 32bit only. It is guaranteed to work with the Cakewalk Sonar Forums.
