Sonar Home Studio and Windows 7 Premium Home 64 bit

Ok, I used Cakewalk  w a y  back in the Windows 95 era and want to pick up again with the Sonar Home Studio version. My simple question is:
Can I load Sonar Home Studio (32 bit straight out of the box) on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit O.S. on a laptop (straight out of the box)?

I've heard about XPmode and WOW64 and a buddy & I even read Using SONAR Home Studio 7 on x64 FAQ but we're still unclear. It sucks to get old so can you help an old guy out...huh?

Thanks, Okie6gun

which version of SHS?  version 6 had both 32bit and 64bit versions.  SHS7 is 32bit only, but you can load it on the 64bit OS and use it like that.

I've been hesitant to purchase SHS or a laptop untill I'm sure what will work. I assume the version would be best (SHS7) if it will run on Windows 7 Premium Home 64 bit O.S.? All new laptops now come with 64 bit O.S. and SHS7 says 32 bit on the box.

I'm in the same situation that you're in, Okie.

I bought a laptop the other day, and every one of them seemed to have Windows 7 preloaded.

Sonar Home Studio 7 seemed to be the best fit for me, but it is only Compatible with XP and Vista, according to the box.

I'm looking for some kind of encouragement or advice.

By the way, I'm 55, and I like country music (I consider pedal steel to be my main instrument) and I don't consider myself to be "an old guy." But I know what you're saying.

SHS7 is 32bit native, but it will run fine on a 64bit OS, just not as a 64bit app.  it will run as a 32bit app on the 64bit OS.

    KH,
Beagle is correct. I called Cakewalk direct last week and asked their Rep (Ben I think) and he said Yes,... Sonar 7 Home Studio will
load on Win 7-64 bit. It's just not "officially" suported. There are conflicting reports on the web and the box
DOES say compatible with XP & Vista (which are 32 bit only). I've since purchased the software and loaded it on my
work computor (Win7) to test and all seems fine. I'll load on laptop w/USB driver and try to configure keyboard tonight.
I'm encouraged so you be also. Steely Man huh? Paul Franklin is my favorite steel player.
