Sonar Home Studio - importing video

When I use the import video feature in Sonar Home Studio, I see the audio track, but can't find any way to see the video. Is that not supported?

Try Views > Video. Also [Track view] View > Video Thumbnails to see thumbnails in a video track. Though I don't know if Home Studio does these things.

W10 pro, Sonar Platinum, Alesis Multimix 16 FW, MOTU Express 128, Gigabyte Z370 HD3P, i7 8700K, 16 Gigs, ssd + 2 X 2T disks, D50-MEX, JV80, A90EX, M1REX

There is no where in the promo documentation that say's HS does video.
I just checked my version and the Video view is missing where it normally is easily found in Pro or Splat.

Man, if it's not supported, why even have an Import Video option?! I found a Cakewalk press release when they announced HS, and it says "Whether you want to make beats, record a band, compose video soundtracks, upload directly to social media, play along with backing tracks, or write the next hit song, Sonar Home Studio is the most direct way to realize your creative vision." Can't find any mention of importing video in the documentation that applies to HS. Irritating!

I do not know the meaning of the dark grey indicators in the comparison table for Video Import/Export and Video view. It might be worth an email to support for clarification. I could not find any notations in the documentation regarding SHS and video. Usually when a feature is not available in a certain version of SONAR there is a note in the documentation.

This is it. I've never used the video feature of Sonar but I have often opened that view by mistake.
It's plainly not there in HS , I checked.  The " Make soundtracks for videos" might be referring to the audio, not the video.

Some of the confusion is that they did not make help files for HS, you are using the same documents that all versions use so it is left up to you to sort out what features you have. I myself have no issue with this as it's never a huge surprise to go to use a fancy feature and it's just not there. I really didn't expect  much for only $50. There's a very short list of missing features for what I do.

If that feature is important to you then I guess you'll need to upgrade to Artist, this is the nature of price points for all software.
If they do anything to make this clear they should add "Video" to the "Versions" list.

Um, who makes a soundtrack without being able to mate it to the video? That doesn't even make sense. The greyed out text in the comparison chart for HS is just odd... no explanation and not present in any other products.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Yeah, that seems to be a shady bit of marketing but, by the same token, you could create sound tracks for games but no one would expect the game to be loaded into HS.

Full video support is not currently implemented in SHS.

We're working on a maintenance release that will be adding video back in along with updating a few other components.  Work on this was delayed because of the scope of a few SONAR updates, but it's still on our roadmap.

Seth

Thanks for the update. Noel mentioned an update was in the works when replying to a post about mp3 support. Good to know that video will be added too.,

There's a load of features missing in home studio which cakewalk just fail to mention in the compare versions chart and they don't make it apparent in any of the other marketing for it either. Imo they need to be a bit clearer with their marketing for it.

I've been bitten by promising things in the past, since stuff is always subject to change, but right now we're shooting for after the 09 update is released.

Do you have any that you know of off hand? I can make sure the copy is changed appropriately, this is the best time to do that when leading up to an update.

One I can think of that surprised me was Event list as that's something that is a basic part of any sequencer.
Small little tiny things like the TRACK/ select outputs  are also a ponder but my perspective is different being a user of both HS and SPlat. I really am impressed with what is actually included. I think it is a bargain compared to many other basic DAWs available.

Synth rack is missing, no option to apply trimming to a clip, can't tab through transients in a clip, I'm guessing some other basic editing functions could be missing too but I ended up upgrading to pro anyway so wouldnt have come across them.
One suggestion I would make is maybe offer a demo of home studio alongside the demo of platinum, I know cubase offer full demos of both the entry level and pro versions of their products, this imo is great idea as customers can see exactly what they would be getting.

I can see a demo of $500 software, but $50? not much risk there. But one easy way they could do this is you can download of the full version of HS and free activation for a week or so then you pay if you like it. I end up with a few software apps this way. Some you just can't save the file until you activate.

The missing synth rack throws you off at first but then you just get used to deleting the track, it's actually easier. But I do prefer looking at the synth rack.

With cubase elements, the demo is the full product including all synths and content (5gb download) fully enabled including save, active for 30 days then you have to buy it. Imo this type of demo offering works better than what cakewalk currently offer.
Even with the platinum demo, it has no plugins or content and certain features won't work or aren't available, its hardly showing off or showcasing the softwares full potential is it. I really think cakewalk are missing a trick by not offering two levels of demos and offering a more complete demo package.

No, I demoed Cubase elements, it doesnt need the usb licenser to run but the demo of cubase pro does. Elements uses a software license key.

I have Cubase 5 Elements and Wave Lab 7 elements and yes you can use the software licence. But I found it was better to buy the USB elicencer so I could switch computers if need be. I like that system.
But I tried to grab the demo of the full version but both times I downloaded it ( huge file) and it was a no go for me so I gave up.

Seth Kellogg kindly linked to this post while answering a Home Studio question I asked in a different post.

I'd like to point out I presently use Cakewalk's Music Creator 6 and that program will load video thumbnails to aid in editing audio.
