Sonar Not Exporting Properly

Hello -

I was wondering if anyone knew the resolution to my problem is.  This issue has been going on since version 8 of Sonar.  Now I have upgraded to Sonar X1 and my issue persist.  Whenever I export my final project I can only hear the drums when it is played in a music player on my cell phone using the loud speaker option.  When I plug in a pair of head phones it works fine.  You can hear the complete mix just fine.  I know it is not the cell phone because it does this on ALL phones.  Anyone know the resolution to this issue?

my 1st guess: it's a mixing problem -> user fault!
play the project in mono, adjust levels in mono, listen again with your cell phone..
can you post a sample ?

http://www.divshare.com/download/14951553-313 <--if you hear it on a computer it sounds fine...but when it is downloaded and played in a phone via loud speaker...it will not work unless you use headphones...all you hear is drums.  The projects was made in mono...so I do not understand.

woaw.. yeah.. I can hear and see it..
you are way out of phase with your mix.. meaning that everything besides the drums cancel out!!
do you have a correlation / vector analyzer tool (ozone/digicheck/..) ? then you'll see for yourself..
it's hard to tell how you got into that mess.. Its the second time I hear and see negative phases.. too much m/s-processing ?

switch your playback to MONO and listen !

This is all kind of a foreign language to me.  So I would have no idea how to fix it.  Most of the stuff I mix is done by ear not taught knowledge.  Where do I switch playback to mono?

the left side is out of phase with the right signal.. if you combine them (mono) they'll cancel out -> silence !
I don't know how you did it.. you might want to wait for some more pro's to chime in or google it..
that's why I said mix in mono ! place the channel tool on your master out.. double click both sliders.. and you'll get a mono signal and all you'll hear will be the drums.. (the cellphone speaker: mono)
now that you only hear the drums, you should track down the tracks and nudge/move them till they are audible again.. maybe you have a short delay somewhere that cancels out everything besides the drums..

the Correlation needs to be positive..
negative values cancel out the signal

I am not sure what I just did with "Channel Tools" but now I hear the melodies!

Channel Tool can "play" with phases as well.. I guess switching the phase of one side might solve your problem.(top left on ct-gui)
I am just starting to get into that "analyzing" topic myself.. so I can't tell much more than I have..
your mix sounds pretty decent.. but it's not mono compatible.. that's what you need to change.
If you re-check your mixes with channel tools set to mono then you can be sure that your mixes translate well on mono sources (cellphone)

I just tested the Left and Right Phase Switches within Channel Tools.. and yes.. switching the phase of one channel fixes your problem.

Thanks for this post. I read it at first and thought "what on earth is this all about?" and then I realized that it was a mono-compatibility issue.

Very interesting, actually.  I teach a HS tech class; I'll be sharing this post with them next week. Really drives home the point of paying attention to phase and the potential problems in mono-mix applications.

that one is perfectly mono-compatible. Correlation Meter constantly at +1.0. You got it !!

I'd be curious to know how the OP managed to invert the left and right channels to begin with. I can't think of how you'd do that without something like Channel Tools. Could this be the result of some overly-aggressive M/S processing, perhaps some stereo enhancer plugin?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
