Sonar Platinum ~ Audio outputs with Lynx E22

Hi - been quite a while since I was last here. Pottering on with Home Studio 7XL until finally I decided to upgrade to Platinum. Bought a Lynx E22 soundcard for my new Windows 10 computer. Waited for many hours for Platinum to download and install. Looks great!

So Platinum immediately recognised the Lynx E22 in ASIO. Great. No! Lots of crackles and pops on play back. So I tried changing to MME(32bit). OKish but still some latency issues. Adjusted buffers and just about OK. BUT, I want ASIO! So, I changed back to ASIO and now no sound at all. Sonar is clearly playing the music but it isn't getting to the speakers. The output drivers listed in preferences-Audio for MME are not the same as for ASIO which clearly is the problem. But now Sonar refused to recognise in ASIO the output drivers that work in MME. Clearly it did when Sonar first installed so it must be possible. (I have checked each track output and they are correct for the output drivers listed in Audio preferences).

Any advice most gratefully received.

Hi. Sorry if this is obvious. You would not happen to have share drivers with other programs checked in Preferences (P), Audio, Devices? Could windows have taken over the AI somehow? Have you tried a reboot?
Best of luck.

Hi Zargg71 - very many thanks. Not shared. No indication I can find of Windows taking over - but with Windows, how can you ever tell! And no success with reboot. I am sure (or at least it is my best guess) that the problem lies in the Output drivers. Lynx E22 is definitely ASIO capable and Sonar worked with it in ASIO on initial setup until I stupidly changed audio to MME to see if the latency would be better. Now Sonar refuses to revert back to ASIO. Odd!

Is your drivers up to date? Latest seems to be from Feb this year.

Lyle,

Try removing the on board audio drivers for the computer since you have the lynx E22 installed.  Also, check your buffer settings and move it to a safer latency level.

Let us know how that worked.

Peace,

Hi,
Maybe a stone in the water,but....
Once you have done all what is said in this forum, mainly disabling all other audio things except your Lynx ,
I discovered personnaly that pcie slots are not equals...
So maybe trying another slot ( probably the main one) could help.
All the best.

That Lynx card has a mixer app, right? Does anything show as output in the mixer in the output?  I use the Lynx mixer and (although it may seem obvious) it's easy to accidentally mute the output in the mixer app.

Hi Zargg71 - Yep, drivers and firmware all up to date.

H Jesse G - I tried removing the NVIDIA audio drivers. No effect. Will change the buffer settings once I get ASIO working.

ViloVilo - Interesting. I will give that a go.

PhilW - no output on the Lynx mixer itself. But all the mixers within Sonar show activity. I did wonder about this but playing a piece of music outside Sonar works fine so the mixer can't not muted.

Having slept on the problem (!), I am beginning to think that the Lynx E22 has a missing audio output and that is the one that Sonar is trying to link to in ASIO. Hence no sound. There should be a "Play 01+02(Lynx E22)" listed in Device Manager audio input/output but there isn't and this is what Sonar is trying to link to in ASIO. In MME, Sonar links to audio output "Speakers (Lynx E22)" which does exist in Device Manager and works fine. There doesn't seem to be any way I can make Sonar in ASIO link to Speakers (Lynx E22). Curious.

Hi,

as I understood, this machine is a new one. This means, there is a great chance that you did not made all the DAW tweaks...
Can you check if the computer is running in High Performance Mode? This will be accessible via the enrgy control. You should check all the tipps and tweaks regarding power profiles.
For example: in "Balanced Mode" my computer starts to crackle at 512 samples, in "Power Mode" 64 Samples is no problem at all...

More advanced: If this was the problem (or reduced it), take a look to the BIOS. Everything with the topics "Energy Saving", "Green Tech", "Eco-Mode" is your enemy. Disable it - you do not want that.

Please let us know, if this direction is helpful, because than it is easier to give the right suggestions...

Hi vdd - many thanks. The machine is a new one with Windows 10 and 16GB RAM.

So, my brain hurts! I checked the Mode and you are right. Set to Balanced Mode. I have changed it to High Performance. I also ran a Lynx installation check to confirm that it was installed correctly. No problems. All working fine. So before checking the BIOS (which I will do later), I opened Sonar and changed the audio from MME to ASIO. Worked perfectly! I then increased the buffer size for Lynx and still works perfectly. No latency issues.

I am surprised that the High Performance mode fixed the problem as I would have thought there would be at least some sound in Balanced Mode - just latency issues. Under Balanced Mode, the Lynx mixer was not showing any audio received at all. And the Lynx E22 Play 01 that Sonar is now using successfully in ASIO as the Output Driver still doesn't appear in Device Manager as an audio output. Odd!

Anyway, many thanks to everyone for all your help.

Hi Jesse G - Very many thanks. I can dream!

Hi Zargg71 - Very many thanks. I suspect the computer got tired of me messing around with it and decided to fix itself! Now if I could just persuade it to brew beer!
