Sonar Platinum Setting the Sample Rate for New Projects in Preferences Errors

Hello everyone first time thread starter,

Just downloaded Platinum yesterday and installed and was going through and setting my preferences and for what ever reason every time I try to change the sample rate for New Projects, I get an error. I noticed that the dummy project that I started, to just test was running at 96k sample rate (I did not set this the first time I ran Platinum). Every time I tried to change to 44.1 sample rate the error message (sorry paraphrasing) that the device driver says to run at 32 bit  and can't run at that sample rate and reverts back to 96k sample rate.

Now I tried changing it also without a project loaded and still the same error.  Sonar X1d and Sonar X3e I'm able to change this parameter without issue, never had an issue or error on changing this. My audio interface is a Roland Octo Capture. I also could not change on my interface either.

I did check this by closing Platinum and then opening X3e (changing sample rate without issue) and then closing, same for X1, and reopening Platinum and I still receive an error. Did all the previous steps in one session without rebooting computer, with rebooting computer and audio interface, still same results.

I'm not sure yet whether I should fill out a report yet, unless others are experiencing the same issue.

Thanks for your time

What exactly is the specific error? Maybe a screenshot?

First thing I would do is run the system update and then update the drivers:
https://www.roland.co.uk/products/octa-capture/downloads/

As you stated that you couldn't change it on the interface, the first the hunch (without the full detail) is pointing to a problem with that interface (even though it may be working fine in earlier version of Sonar, sadly this does not rule out an interface issue). It's worth updating anyway regardless...

Cheers...

To echo Alex, make sure you have the latest 64-bit drivers and the latest firmware.

Then, try changing the Octa-Capture sample rate before opening SONAR. Open SONAR and it should give you a message along the lines of it's changing sample rate to match the sound card.

Re: Sonar Platinum Setting the Sample Rate for New Projects in Preferences Errors 2015/02/16 14:46:03 (permalink)
Thanks for your reply CakeAlexS,

The actual error message is "The default audio format is not compatible with one or more sound cards. It has been reset to 96000 Hz (32 bit), as suggested by the driver."

I am running the latest drivers and firmware for my interface. I've never been able to adjust the sample rate on the Octo capture while running Sonar. All changes were made within the preferences menu without issue in earlier versions. The only adjust-ability in the Octo Capture is the audio buffer size.

Now if I run say Kontakt stand alone I can adjust the sample rate in the Octo Capture. Of course if I adjust I must restart Kontakt to attain the new settings.

Now today to copy the error message the Octo Capture was set to 44.1 samples before opening Sonar Platinum and I received an error immediately on the splash page as above but instead of 96000 Hz it said 44100 Hz, since the Test project was initially at 96k. I tried changing to 96k in Default sample rate for New Projects and received the same error above of course instead of 96000 Hz it was 441000 Hz.

Very strange based on previous versions.

We've had quite a few octa-capture issues recently for some reason...

So you are definitely running v1.5.2 drivers and system update 1.51 (64 bit drivers).
You are running 64 bit Platinum?

You are running ASIO drivers? OPTIONS>AUDIO>DRIVERS - tell us what is listed.

If you are running ASIO4ALL please completely remove it.

Thanks..

Thanks also Anderton for your reply,

CakeAlexS, yes I am running v1.5.2 drivers 64 bit drivers and system firmware 1.5.1. You can't run v1.5.2 without the system firmware being 1.5.1.

Verified 64 bit Platinum, I had the Command center install Sonar Platinum (very quick by the way) so wasn't sure. ASIO drivers listed OCTO CAPTURE under OPTIONS>AUDIO>DRIVERS . I do not have Asio4all drivers installed on this machine.

Though I will say I could not find Sonar Platinum listed in Programs (quick way to see whether 64 bit exe or not). I saw the Command Center but not Sonar Platinum. Looks like to uninstall Platinum can only use Command Center.

At this stage I might uninstall, reboot and then reinstall the Roland drivers in case something has gone wrong..
After that I would rename AUD.INI (google for details) with Sonar closed which may clear out some duff settings. Then check preferences again...

Also make sure in Windows Control Panel-> Sounds the Octocapture is disabled.

Maybe people here will post further ideas...

Cheers..

Re: Sonar Platinum Setting the Sample Rate for New Projects in Preferences Errors 2015/02/16 19:10:18 (permalink)
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the Octo Capture and still receive the same error. I named the AUD.INI so Sonar Platinum would make a new file and still the same error.

I tried in Sonar X3 stopping the audio engine in the console and when I did, I was able to change the sample rate on the Octo Capture. Thinking this may be a work around in Sonar Platinum, I fired it up after closing X3 and when I press the stop audio engine in the console the icon turns grey but doesn't release the Octo capture from its current sample rate. So there was no sample rate list to choose from as there was when I stopped the audio engine in X3.

So for now I'll just name my files if other than a sample rate of 44.1 and set my interface accordingly before starting Platinum. Suggested by Anderton, thanks.

Thanks for your help CakeAlexS.

Just wanted to let anyone know that the latest update (Braintree) seems to have mysteriously fixed the issue I was experiencing. Everything reacts the same as in X3 and X1 now.

Only weird thing would be the icons in my project folder for X3 changed to the platinum icons after updating Platinum.
