Sonar Platinum membership and Addictive Drums License
If I buy Sonar Platinum membership for a month, what will happen to Addictive Drums after this period gone? Is Addictive Drums' license permanent or just as Sonar's (for a month)?

BTW, IDK but trying to get AD2 for a one month fee seems like cheating to me.

And I realize it's a "valid" question. Still seems like cheating if you do that. But hey, if CW allows it who am I to judge?

Seems you have to buy for 12 months to keep anything, is the impression I get. Either up front or monthly. Same as if you walked into Sweetwater and bought it. Pay first, then receive the bounty.

I suspect "No" will be the correct answer. I cannot confirm this because I already owned AD2 full upgrade outside of SONAR.

Why don't you just go to XLN's site and ask for a $49 version of AD2 with the 3-3-3 option. They'll probably give it to you. And you can just bypass having to install SONAR for a month. /tongueInCheek

This is a legit question; I don't suspect the OP is trying to steal, just understand. I asked this a few weeks ago and didn't get an answer ,afaik. I got AD2 with X3 and those three kits can be used in other DAWs. I also purchased three more kits. One of the highlights of the platinum upgrade is three more AD2 kits, but unless they have restricted their use to Sonar, I don't see how they could "take them away" after a month. If they allowed you to "keep" them on cancelling, you would be able to sign up for a month, cancel, sign up for another month and get three different kits, and repeat until you have all of them. This is a legit question because if they restrict their use to Sonar, they may not be as useful to someone who uses multiple DAWs. I'd like to know too.

Here's the answer: You sign up for one month, keep the AD2 bundle, XLN shows up at your front door and beats the living sh-t out of you, takes your wallet off your bleeding body, and charges the remaining 11 months to your credit card. These guys are from Sweden. Why do you think the Pope hires Swiss for the Swiss Guards? They don't fool around.

Here's my take. CW give you a redemption code for AD2. XLN knows you got it from Cakewalk. You stop paying on month 2. Cakewalk notifies XLN. Then see post #15 or the next time you try to use the XLN installer it deactivates your account, wipes out your hard dive with a triple pass algorithm and shuts down your internest just for spite. 200bpm This is a legit question; I don't suspect the OP is trying to steal, just understand. I'd like to know too.
Ok, maybe "steal" is too harsh a word. But to get a ~$200 package value for a max of $49 (assuming OP is first time buyer) seems a bit of a cheat since the OP would be doing under the guise of "going" with Cakewalk. Just by asking the question would imply the OPs desire to do so and maybe yours too 200bpm. Is that your plan? Unless it's a philosophical question designed to get CW to think through their potential "mistake".

People will exploit what they can given the chance, so addressing this potential loophole is a good idea. There are other parts of SONAR that work in other DAW's as well, so the new SONAR reverting to demo mode may not address these either. I will agree that this being the only thread by a new forum member is highly concerning. I am only slightly concerned about the Swiss over-running Sweden .

My guess is that Cake has to pay for each redemption code and that they don't get any money back from Addictive if a membership is cancelled prematurely. There would be very little reason for them to go through the bother of deleting someone's membership. It could get very complicated, especially if someone buys kits but cancels Sonar etc.
It does look like a loophole and unfair. I asked about this too and it was never fully resolved.

Upon reflection, this is my guess: The AD2 client has tight integration with their store, showing you the kits you "own" as well as the other kits they sell. My computer is internet connected, so every time I launch AD2, it connects with their web service. If the Cakewalk subscription lapses, it would be easy for them to disable ownership. Given that 99.5% of computers are on the internet, the only way to circumvent the copy protection would be (might be) to not connect. Then it becomes a question of whether AD2 validates every time it is launched. My guess is yes. Or at least there is a requirement to validate on some interval. Its also possible that they don't have the software part of this worked out yet. Someone could buy and cancel a 1mo sub to find out that they have AD2 now, but at some point in the future it could go away. The fact that they are mum about how this works shows that they are not in a hurry to explain it. This would discourage this kind of intent. What is clear is that AD2 it tightly integrated with their web service and it would be easy for them to disable kits if connected.

It's only cheating/stealing if there's an explicit rule somewhere that's then broken. I haven't seen any such rule.

So moving forward, for some folks buying only one month licenses to get 3rd party deals. Sonar and these vendors will eventually work out some specials or alternatives. For example, next time; give only the free additional packs to yearly subscribers, and to the monthly's---get the ad packs next year when you have completed the 12 month cycle.

That's not really true if you ask me. It comes down to a person having a little honesty and honor about themselves. Then again...there doesn't seem to be much of that in the world anymore. People who think it's OK to pull a stunt like this should have everything they own stolen and destroyed...just to show them a lesson. JMHO of course.

The protection of Intellectual Property is a big concern of mine since in global markets many means of protection are not enforceable, let alone prosecutable. The US patent office has countless patent infringements documented that cannot be prosecuted for this very reason (no jurisdiction). Something to consider for the loyal customers who pay money yet get irate with software verification/validation is this... Cakewalk has bent over backwards to accommodate loyal customers, yet this exposes them to exploitation. I am a proponent of stricter licensing since it not only protects the company but also the customers who actually pay for a product and adhere to its intended use (which is the majority of users). Unfortunately the concepts of honor/integrity tend to collapse where money or self-gain is concerned.
