Sonar Power Studio 250 not working

I had the Sonar Power Studio 250 AI working excellent on my PC at home but one day my kid was running an antivirus and got impatient and unplugged the computer in the middle of the scan. Since then the AI won't turn on with the computer.
So I went and bought a laptop and tried getting it to work with the AI but all it does is turn on for a few seconds when I restart the laptop, then it turns back off (indicated by the led lights).
Anybody have any ideas as to what's going on here.

Did you try re-installing the interface's drivers on the original computer?

What operating system is on new laptop? You may need to download new drivers for it from Cake site for Windows 7 etc. Not sure about the 250, which is USB, but there were certainly issues with the 660 FireWire, which needed to be set to legacy mode.

So the lights on the interface go out? Are you powering it off the USB port? If so, it could be that the port just can't deliver enough current. That would not be surprising on a laptop.

I used to have a UA-25 that could be either powered off USB directly or by an external wall-wart, but it was unreliable without the separate power supply. I discovered that one day by accident, when the interface started acting up and I crawled under the desk to find the power supply had become unplugged. The interface still worked, but intermittently. It was fine again after I plugged it back in.

However, going back to your original computer, it seems unlikely that an aborted virus scan would cause the interface to stop working. But if it did, a re-install of the driver should fix it up again. Remember to disconnect the interface while installing the driver and rebooting, then plug the interface in and let Windows Plug 'n Play discover it.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
