Sonar Producer 3 question-beginner

hi, I have a question regarding sonar producer 3 that I've been using for a few years. My PC that I uploaded Sonar onto is a little old and running out of space. I was thinking of copying my entire hard drive onto an external hard drive and then run sonar from the external drive. However, if I copy all the files I've recorded over the years onto this external drive will sonar recognize them if I call them up and edit them in the future?and will my computer recognize sonar-will I have to re-install it on the external.

one more question-I also have Sonar Home Studio 7 but I never use it. I'd like to upgrade to a better program(not too expensive)  that would be good for mixing-

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

thanks for taking the time to read this

James

Sorry, running SONAR from an external HDD does most likely not work properly. I suggest getting a new HDD for you PC. The internal ones are cheaper than external, too.

For fluent functioning it's recommended that SONAR is on the system drive, ans having the OS and SONAR on an external HDD sounds like tough situation. I think I've read some threads about successfully using SONAR from an external HDD, but I'm not sure. I guess you need a fast machine to be able to do that (??)

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

James, a little more information please:

    Laptop or desktop?
    Operating system?
    Ram?
    CPU?
    Number of installed HDD's?
    Capacity of HDD's?

Kalle is right in that you might run into all sorts of problems attempting to run Sonar on an external drive.
