Sonar Producer 8 blue screens

Anyone have a Stable computer that runs Sonar Producer 8.3.1 without any blue screens ever?

With 8.0, blue screens was many daily.. as Sonar updates to 8.3.1.. the Blue screens became less.  I think this is a software issue and not hardware, but someone prove me wrong!

I have:

M-Audio 1010LT
AMD X2 dual core 6000+
biostar 7050-m2
eGeforce 8600 GT
4gb ram DDR2 800mhz
Windows XP SP3
blackwidow 550watt PSU

I have all updates to Bios and Drivers.

If you have a stable computer with Sonar Producer 8.3.1 that does not "blue screen" while using Sonar Producer 8.3.1, please post your computer specs and the interface your using.

Thank you all so much for your time.

My old computer - AMD dual core, 1GB ram, Soundbalster Audegy, Windows XP - No Blue Screens while running Sonar version 8.0 or 8.3.1 and anything in between. I did get a few Sonar crashes that appered to be related old, free and shareware VST plugins.

Since replaced with Intel i7, 6GB ram, Juli@ sound card Win Vista 64. It's very stable running 8.3.1 32 bit,  No blue screens. I am a lot more selective about VST's now.

Frequent blue screens could indicat a faulty RAM chip

    Intel i7 3770K @4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD System disk, 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB (with SSD Cache) HDD. Windows 10,  Sonar Platinum. Roland Quad Capture.

Drivers, I bet. Check your dumps in windows.
    I doubt it's software but I don't know what you're doing.
I bet they are all the same thing, whatever it is.

Someone gave me this a while back

    1. Make sure that you have a page file allocated on your OS drive. Unless you've switched this off you will have. To check/set right Click My Computer->Properties->Advanced Tab->Performance Frame->Settings->Advance Tab->Virtual Memory Frame->Change Button. If you're not sure about manually setting it set to "System Managed Size". I've never seen any noticeable advantage by setting it manually. I only have mine turned on for the dump files. OK your way back to the System Properties->Advanced tab

    2. Click on Startup and Recovery->Settings and make sure that under System failure frame->Write debugging information that "Small memory dump" is selected from the drop down box. Make a note of the small dump directory path probably set at "%SystemRoot%\Minidump". This is where you'll find the dump file. Unless you've changed from the default install that'll be in your C:\WINDOWS directory. You'll need to know it later. OK your way out.

    3. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/...ugging/installx86.Mspx and download the latest current release and then install it.

    4. Start WinDbg and select File->Symbol Path Enter SRV*c:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols into the box. OK your way out. Exit and restart the program.

    5. Now select File->Open Crash Dump and navigate your way to the Minidump directory whcih by default will be C:\WINDOWS\MiniDump and select the dump file you want to open. They have the format "MiniDateCountForDay" so you'll see something like Mini020809-01.dmp

    6. It'll take a few seconds to load first time as it looks online for the symbols. If you're not online at the time you'll need to download the symbol files, put them on your harddrive somewhere and then tell WinDmp where they are. It's much easier and quicker being online

    7. After a while you'll see a load of info and eventually a starred up banner with "Bugcheck Analysis" in it. Underneath that click on the !analyze bit in "Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information". You should then see a lot of mumbo jumbo from which you should be able to fairly easily decipher exactly what caused the crash. Won't fix it but at least you'll know and that's the sort of info a company needs to improve their drivers etc.

It does not seem to matter what I do in Sonar.  Last night I was playing with Rapture and working the Drums in one of the expansion packs.. and while just playing my Edirol PCR-300 Sonar just "happened" to blue screen.  I get blue screens when recording, playing back, or Sonar can be just at idle while Im talking on the phone and it will blue screen.

Sonar is the only program on my system that Blue screens.   All other software has not shown this problem, not even Project 5.  I do not like to use Project 5 because it is a CPU hog.

Have you checked the blue screen dumps because as I said, they tell what is causing it?

(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
    Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.

I'm overall quite fustrated at all this.. and I would rather like to be more happy about setting up to record music rather than having fear "Will Sonar crash again?"

The information above blames the sound driver, and ive sent that to M-Audio with no response from M-Audio on it.  Neither Sonar or M-Audio will fix problem i guess.   Do I need a new interface or Daw or computer?

Before I purchased new equipment I'd at least try a clean install of everything first if you can afford to do so without losing any personal data.

If it is the interface, Anyone recommand a Interface that is similar to the Delta 1010LT as far as 24 bit / 96 khz minimum and RCA inputs/outs, XLR input / out, Midi in/out, Etc?  I know Delta costs about $200.   I would like to spend no more than $600 towards a interface, but if I must buy a RME.. i'll save up for that.

I've already done quite a few clean installs in my April post.. this is a newer AMD system compared to my old system in April.  New hard drive too.  and new memory sticks..  and twice reinstalled.  I do not believe it to be that as a problem.   the only Blue screens i get is while I'm running Sonar Producer.  No other program causes that kind of crash..  although before the 8.2 update, My windows media player did a first time ever blue screen crash.. but that was after I was done using Sonar.. ?

Thank you all so much for your time.

I don't get any blue screens running Sonar. I also swear by Intel CPUs and never use AMDs. Also, even though you have 4GB, 32-bit Windows XP can only use 3GB of it. Make sure you have the 3GB switch set. Make sure you have the latest M-Audio driver for XP for your Delta1010.

Do you get a message with your blue screen? Sometimes that is helpful in finding the cause. I recommend you either run MEMTEST or remove one of your memory chips and see if you still get the blue screen. Blue screen crashes are usually due to faulty memory, bad drivers or possibly your power supply is insufficient for your computer. How many hard drives are you using? If more than 2, you should disconnect one and see if the problem goes away.

Edit: I read some more of this thread. I also suggest you download and install the latest BIOS update for your motherboard.

Have you tried configuring Sonar to use MME as the driver mode with the internal generic sound card. If you can eliminate BSOD that way, it may indicate it's the Delta 1010LT. Do you have a friend that has a Firewire/USB sound card you could borrow and see if a different ASIO/WDM driver compatible card eliminates the BSOD. It would be unfortunate to buy anything without finding the source of the problem.

Once it names the problem then that's your problem. It's not the PC and it's not the DAW - it's the driver.

How do you have windows sounds set up?

It doesn't just mean the driver is faulty - it can mean there is conflict with other things.

I am not sure if my Realtek would handle it very well?

I might be able to use it with midi?

Probally better idea to find someone that has something faster.. I dont have firewire yet.. and id have to buy something to get that to work.

Just wondering here but do you have your on-board sound chip disabled?

Chefmike8888, not disabled from the Bios.  Just windows, but never really seen a difference between disabling it in windows or On-board Bios.  I could try to disable it on board BIOs and run it like that until it blue-screens.. if it doesnt blue screen within the first hour, then Im in the clear.

If you have a stable computer with Sonar Producer 8.3.1 that does not "blue screen" while using Sonar Producer 8.3.1, please post your computer specs and the interface your using.

Generic Dell something-or-other, ah, that would be a Dell Optiplex GX620, with a MOTU 828MkII interface. XPSP2.

Although I have experienced BSODs with past versions of SONAR, crash dumps revealed that in EVERY CASE the culprit was a third-party component, not SONAR itself.

In your case, the faulting module appears to be your Delta interface driver. I just googled [M-Audio Delta "status error"] and got 260 hits. You might want to scan those for a possible clue.

Just taking a wild guess, I'd guess that "status error" means the interface itself reported some problem to the driver that the driver didn't know how to handle, so it passed the error back to SONAR, which didn't have any way to handle it either, so passed it back to Windows, which handled it the only way possible: the default error handler affectionately known as the Blue Screen of Death. The error condition may have originated in the interface hardware itself.

Definitely getting closer to your problem here. Should never have to set and reset this. There are two alternatives. Have your windows sounds set to use your onboard card and the delta to be used for Sonar only. Or you can have the delta card to do both.

Windows sounds has nothing to do with Sonar. It's one set up, one time for windows and Sonar. No need to ever change it.

Okay, I've just found out that M-Audio has forums.. and Multi people are having the same problem as I am with the driver.  Most people "Rolled" back to a older version of the driver to make this stable.  The only problem with this is.. I will not be able to listen to 24 bit / 96khz sound quality!  Although I can listen to 16 bit / 96 khz sound quality.. funny thing is Sonar will let me record 24 bit when the sound driver doesn't support that?  Now I'm confused.   Sonar will not allow me to go to 24 bit / 96khz cause for some reason the sound driver tells sonar this?  I wish Sonar could by pass what the sound driver says it can do, I know it can do 24 bit / 96 khz from the newer sound driver.

I have not run this older version of the sound driver long enough.. but Im going to try it and see if its the problem.  If it is.. I'll just have to see about getting a new interface.

Any suggestions to a new interface that does 24 bit / 96 khz stablely and not too pricey?  The M-Audio delta 1010LT costs me $200.00
