Sonar Producer X2 and Kontakt???

Thanks to the previous members who responded (rscain/garrigus/bristol_jonesy)...I'm getting closer If anyone would like to personally help me with this issue I would be greatly appreciative. Skype (screen share) would be cool. This could be solved in like 5 minutes...but alas I deal with these boards...lol I do have things to barter with. I do high end video promo, am a composer, and a voice actor...You, your business, or your site might need some video/audio work or you just need some thing professionally mastered... whatever I do a myriad of things...I'm sure there's something you need. Ok so here's what I have so far. I've imported a previously done midi file that is drums only. Each track has a different drum on it. Kick - snare - hat etc. and they play normally through my keyboard (Korg 01/W)so the midi seems to be functioning like it should. With a sonar project open I can call up the Kontakt interface and play the grooves that are inside kontakt and my mouse will trigger the sounds if I click on the Kontakt internal keyboard. So all that seems to be working. Also I noticed that Kontakt has picked up the midi tempo that is from the drum sequence I have loaded...so it seems like Kontakt is functioning. However, when I try to get the midi track (channel) to play, it won't trigger Kontakt. I cloned the kick track to experiment with and these are the original settings in the drop downs before I cloned it Input - Omni output to - Scarlett (focusrite) Midi channel=10 - Korg 01/w Bank- - A Patch - A29 Dance Kit T he cloned midi track has slightly different settings...I played with them. The midi channel, in this case kick, has 5 drop downs (not looking at the console view - looking at the track)they read 1. Input = Scarlett Midi Omni 2. Output = Kontakt 16 out1 3. Midi Channel = None (the other settings in the drop down are all Kontakt midi channels - I tried 10 but that didn't work so I set it to none) 4. Bank - (It's set to 1 but I'm not wanting to use the sounds from my keyboards) 5. Patch (same as above but says 29 - both numbers make sense to me if I was using the 01/W for sounds they would be BankA/A-29 - Dance Kit) With all that said... 1. How do I route or send this midi kick track to the Kontakt player so it triggers the Kontakt player's sounds? (Studio Drummer is loaded) Let me know if you feel like spending 5 minutes...This interweb thing has to be good for something...lol :) Again thank you all very much... Jason

In Kontakt look at the instrument module to the top you should see a MIDI in and an audio out. These are small and can be overlooked.  The MIDI in should match the MIDI out of the MIDI track for the kick drum. Now at the middle of the track inspector of the MIDI track set it to 1 (it should look like 1 Kontakt) for the first MIDI channel in Kontakt and in Kontakt it should be set also to channel 1 for the kick drum. Other channels work the same way just make the next one channel 2 and so on.

So you need to set 3 things. First setup Kontakt for the proper channel. Then you want to go to the track and set the channel and finally set the track output to Kontakt. Play it back and it should play. If it doesn't one or more of the steps were done wrong.

also, kontaks base octave for pitches is -2. you can either set upthe default base octave in sonar to match or transpose the track.

Thank you very much John and Swamptooth. I now have Kontakt being triggered by a hat/snare/kick...I used 3 different Kontakt interfaces but hey...it's making noise... I followed your directions John and somehow got it to work...not really sure how yet till I go back and really study what i did...but it's working. Thank you very very very much Jason

Jason I use Opera and it works in this forum very well indeed. Firefox doesn't nor does IE.

I don't like Chrome but others use it and like it.

I am on Windows 8 if that is of any relevance to you.

Also you are very welcome in your reply that things are working for you. Thank you.

Thanks John. I use foxfire so I'll have to figure out the text formatting thing. About Kontakt. I tried routing midi channels and it is confusing so I simply clicked on a kontakt icon to load it in the time line (it's own track) then copy and pasted the midi file into that track and it worked...I do have to figure out the transposing thing to get the sounds lined up but at least i got this far...Is there a way to use just one drum kit module instead of all the individual modules (cpu ya know..lol)

Groove 3 has a video tutorial on Kontakt that I just downloaded yesterday for less than $20.  Might be worth it for you.
