Sonar Professional - New DAW Crossover/Crossgrade

I look to this forum a lot but not to post. I see that after the BandLab takeover we will have a new flagship DAW. I have Sonar Professional - does this mean I will get the same new DAW as the Splat people? That would be great if it happened!

Who knows? We'll just have to wait and see. not much point in speculating, it's up to them what they want to do. They can do whatever they want. Then it will be time for us to whine, gloat, praise etc.

What's that Chinese proverb about interesting times? Well, with respect to Sonar, we live in interesting times. Now, we see through a glass darkly. But then...

our steadfast goal is that former SONAR owners (of all versions) will not need to spend any money to cross-over/cross-grade to the future flagship product.

The Chinese quote about interesting times was actually a curse. Hope that's not the case.

I don't see where they said anything of the sort. Can you please provide a link to that?

Please note abacab's post where he quotes the actual statement.  That most certainly does NOT promise the product will be updated and payment free.  it simply says that SONAR owners will not have to pay money to get started.  Maybe Bandlab will go much farther than that.  Maybe they won't.  No point in speculating, but I encourage everyone to be careful not to mis-quote what the company actually said.

DAW: SONAR Platinum Audio I/F: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 gen2

Yep, and if you read the latest update from Meng, they will not be able to use the name Cakewalk Sonar in the future.

So I presume that to mean that Sonar will not be a supported product any longer.  It will continue to work, as is, but no updates will be forthcoming.

Yes, I think that is the message.  The "support" would be in the form of offering a crossgrade to the new product that is a functional equivalent of SONAR.  That would eliminate the need to keep the old products alive.  That raises all sorts of questions as there are many users that never got onto SPLAT, and the new product will probably be lacking some of the bundled items.  Would a person who bought Sonar 7 get a free crossgrade?  Would the new product have multiple levels of capability (platinum, gold, silver, bronze, pot metal) to match the level of commitment of the cross-grading user?

It isn't as simple as it might seem on the surface -- unless everything is free for everybody everywhere forever.  That would be simple, but probably not much more stable future than Gibson.
