Sonar Unresponsive and Corrupting Project? Reproducible

In a previous thread I had talked about a project of mine that had become corrupt,  at the time it seemed that this corruption happend after I cloned a track.  On my newest project I can now reproduce it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7k8Z6GC7zQ

Here is another attempt with the same result:

This project is now no longer playable and if I save it it will load up in the same state.  After the last track did this I started to make backups so I haven't lost much work, but why is Sonar crashing when I simply clone a track?

because of the resolution of your video I could not read what those 2 dialog boxes were that you clicked thru.

it looks like you have some UAD plugins and camel audio?  are those FX on the track you're cloning?  have you tried deleting those before cloning?  one at a time to see if one of them is the problem.

once it becomes unresponsive - have you checked to see if your MOTU drivers are still enabled in the PREFERENCES>PLAYBACK and RECORDING DEVICES?

I can't make out the details, but the first dialog is complaining about missing MIDI devices, the second is the "silent bus detected" warning.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I thought that might have been the case, but couldn't be sure.

    Bitflipper,

You are correct: the first dialog is about missing MIDI devices and the second is the "silent bus detected" warning. The silent bus detected warning is another issue as far as I can tell as it happens to EVERY project I create and slowly more and more busses are detected as "silent" yet they remain perfectly functional. At this point I ignore that error.

    Beagle,

I do have UAD plugins and Camel Audio, which I think work fine as I have used them in other projects. These are on the track I am cloning and I haven't tried deleting them but I will once I get home (currently at work).

I have also checked the MOTU drivers and they are still selected correctly although I didn't try to uncheck them and recheck them to "reinitialize them" but I will try this too.

I suppose my next step is to contact Cakewalk as I can reproduce this and it has corrupted the project previous to this one (not a good track record).

Since you're apparently cloning an audio track, this may not be relevant, but this post addresses some issues I found with cloning simple Instrument tracks with FX in them:

In any case, I agree that if cloning is causing a serious problem like that, the FX are a likely culprit, and it would not surprise me that plug-ins based on hardware processing like UAD would be prone to having issues.

I will try cloning the track without the plugins later, once I am home from work.

It is worth mentioning that the previous track, that was corrupted by track cloning didn't use any UAD plugins at all as I didn't have a UAD card at the time.

    Just a thought,
The silent buss warning might be the source of your troubles.  If, by chance, you have a buss or a send on a track/buss routed to none this usually will cause problems for me in S8.5.3PE.  Sorry, I don't have X1.  Try deleting any of these possible Bus sends or routing them to another legit buss. That just might fix your problems. HTH.

Ok, for no reason that I can explain I cannot seem to make the crash happen again tonight.  I wish I could reproduce it so that I could possibly solve it.  I guess I will have to watch out for this.

(EDIT) I'll add that I changed NOTHING from the previous night and now it works fine!  I did not unfreeze my track or delete the plugins!
