Sonar X1 Producer Playlist woes

So, here's what I've done so far...  I have created a standard file for each of my band's songs.  Each song has a click track and MIDI control for our FX units and pre-amps.  That's right, the only pedals we have to touch are tuners and wah. =D  I have markers for different parts of the song.  I have then put a marker WAY out past the end of the song, with a small silent WAV file.

The idea is to have it so that when a song ends, our drummer hits a trigger which is bound to the "Next Marker" action.  So if at the end of one song we talk to the crowd, he waits to hit it.  If we carry over into the next song or start the next song right away, he hits the trigger sooner.

Within any given song, the trigger to advance to the next marker works perfectly!  However, once we load songs into a playlist, the triggers no longer work.  As soon as we close the playlist, the trigger starts advancing again.  Even if the file was opened by the playlist that is now closed.

It seems as though the playlist disables the Global Bindings.  Except...  If I have the Global Binding set to something on the computer keyboard, that works.  And what's even weirder is that once I use the computer keyboard to advance to the next marker, the drum trigger works to advance as well.  But ONLY in the same song.

Anyone have experience with this?  I would also be willing to have the playlist wait for a keystroke if the trigger can do that, but so far I've had no luck getting that to work either since the drum trigger can only bind to a command, not a keystroke.

Ok, I looked at it for a bit last night and couldn't seem to get it to work, but I'll dig deeper...

Any special tricks I should know on this?  It looks like for SONAR I need to have this as a VSTi, which means it can't be on a MIDI track, right?  This kind of routing is new to me, so sorry if it's painfully obvious... :-/
