Izotope should lower their price on Nectar so that musical instrument sites like Sweetwater, Musicians Friends, etc. can sell it for $199. It is currently priced $50 higher than Ozone and even Alloy. As for the package itself, it's an all in one bundle of vocal effects that you can apply to the mix - so everything is there when you need it. And the alternative is to get separate plugins that do exactly what you want for vocal effects (look into Antares.) That may be a cheaper route if you can find good deals on plugins. Nectar may give you half a dozen vocal effects or more, but what if you only use 2 or 3 of them? So for $249, it's a big waste of money if you ask me.

I got it from Sweetwater for $50 less than Izotope.

What has it got going for it? If you like fiddling around with hundreds of parameters it is great. The presets are pretty nifty.

The manual pitch correction doesn't work in Sonar the last time I looked.

It should sell at about half the price they are currently selling it for. Try A Voxengo Voxformer demo first if the Sonar Vocal strip is not doing it for you.

Nectar is good quality but not good value for money in my opinion.

i love it for a quick drop in a pull up of presets. amazingly tweakable for final results also. backwoods confirms the problem I have had with manual pitch correction, but other than that you are getting 11 effects in in 1. I got it for 200, maybe wait for another deal to come along.

I don't have any problems with Nectar. I really like it and use it on all my vocal tracks. But because SONAR doesn't support the Manual Pitch shift in x64 bit properly I use Presonus Studio One 2 for vocals.
In fact I have and use all the iZotope plugins. Whether I'm tracking, mixing or mastering, at any stage there's something from iZotope in every project.

I also think their products are good value for money. Of course that's my opinion.

    Mike,

I had the trialversion installed a few month ago, and I decided not to spend the money.
For me the Vocalstrip, Pro-Channel, V-Vocal (once you got he hang of it, it's fine..:)) offers enough possibillilties for vocalprocessing, in my opinion.
I bought Alloy instead, when it was on sale, which has most of the effects you'ld find in Nectar included.

    regards,
    Daniel

Buy it secondhand at half price. It's a bit silly to buy it at $249 when you probably have at least half of the tools already.

What happens in manual mode, or doesn't happen actually, is the clip never loads into the manual correction window.  The program just sits there, looking back at you... Without a clip loaded into the correction window, you have nothing to manually correct.  It seems like it wouldn't be too hard a thing for the Bakers and the Izotope folks to fix this, but.. nada so far.

It works fine in the 32 bit version of SONAR 8.5.
I haven't installed X1 32 bit to give it a try and don't go back to 8.5 any more. It's an issue with SONAR x64 only as far I can tell.

I actually won it from Izotope for filling out a survey (who knew?).

I use it on every vocal. The presets are numerous (they have addt free presets you can download). It is tricky to handle since it is so tweakable. I use IK's Black 76 or LA2A for final vocal compression still.

For me, to compare it to something like the VocalStrip is apples and oranges: simply blows it away.
