Sonar X1 crashes with UA-25EX

I have a Cakewalk UA-25EX audio card but I think that the problem could be the X1's audio engine: Sonar crashes a lot of times without a specific reason.
There's no importance if I load a new sample into DropZone or a new Dimension Pro preset, it crashes!
And it has crashed also when I press the Play button, so boring!

My soundcard's drivers works good (without latency) only at the maximum "fast" setting (the extreme left of the driver settings panel, where the opposite is "secure", I'm just supposing the right terms in english because my Sonar version is completely translated in Italian ): is this regular?

Is there someone that has fixed this bug?
Many thanks in advance.

I have two UA-25 EX interfaces and have no problems with the standard drivers.

It is difficult to say what might be causing the effects you describe. I would guess two possibilities:

    1. You might have a faulty RAM area. Download Microsoft's RAM test program and let it run on the most intense test for two full cycles.

    2. If that doesn't show up any problem, you might have some program in the background interfering with Sonar. This could be a virus, anti-virus, a root kit from a CD you might have played, etc.

    What version of Windows?

Are you using the ASIO driver for the soundcard?

That's a Roland or Cakewalk interface using USB 1.1. It won't run reliably with the ASIO buffer set as you describe. Start out setting it the middle and try it. Once it works you can reduce the latency by moving that control to the left. You will never get super low latency with that interface. I had one and found it great for everything but recording using soft-synths with effects while monitoring.

I don't know what/if you can find an audio interface with zero latency.

    Hi, thanks for your responses.
I have Windows 7 64bit, i think that there are no problems in the RAM because the standard drivers works well with FL Studio.
I'm trying to use the ASIO4ALL drivers (10.0 version) through the soundcard (selecting "ASIO" in the driver mode's setting  and "ASIO4ALL v2 OUT (UA-25EX)" in the control panel), and for now anything crashes!
Until yesterday I've used the "WDM" driver mode (that shows only "OUT (UA-25EX)" in the control panel).

I hope that this could be the right solution.
    Sorry for my english.

I have used them with Win7 64bit, WinXP 32bit, ASIO, WDM, X1 and 8.5 - all no problem.

I just thought of another thing: they CAN be used without drivers. If you have the "Advanced Driver" switch at the back set to OFF, then it will use the standard windows compliant drivers and (I think) is limited to USB 1.1

If you have have installed the drivers, set this switch to ON and it will work over USB 2 at good latencies.

However, the only bad effect you should notice is audio skipping and crackling. In no case should you be experience the crashes you describe.

...and the Sample Rate should not be on 96P or 96R. It is not full duplex at that sample rate.

Nevertheless, I have made these mistakes before myself and it should still not crash.

...Correction: it is USB 1.1 in Advanced mode, too.
The Advanced switch activates ASIO 2, not USB 2 - I misspoke.

    Re:Sonar X1 crashes with UA-25EX 2012/04/26 16:04:25 (permalink)
    I've always thought that UA-25EX was 2.0, not 1.1!
Today I've worked a lot with X1 and many projects opened: now I can confirm the absolute absence of problems using the ASIO mode in the driver panel.
The typical audio skipping and popping remains, but this is not a great problem.

The strange thing is that viewing the FL Studio's driver panel, it shows the following drivers (there are two UA25 driver types, this is perfectly regular):
    - UA 25EX
    - UA 25EX (OUT)
    - ASIO 4ALL v2
I've always used the first of the three, and the problems were always very limited, nothing serious about this.
If I chose the second option, the sound becomes very crappy with a lot of pops (exactly as Sonar with the same drivers, but this is typical of UA25, damn -_-).

Sonar X1 views only the "UA-25EX (OUT)" mode of the card's driver and it doesn't view the regular "UA-25EX" driver, so strange (and they are two totally different kind of driver, after a lot of tries with FL Studio)!
I've deducted this from the design of the settings panel, that's identical....in Sonar there's any UA25 regular driver.

At the end, I have to chose imperatively the ASIO driver mode to work decently.

Getting started with Sonar x1 production suite & cakewalk ua-25ex. I'm having similar problems with pops and cracks. Not just with sonar but any audio playback like youtube etc. The driver version shows 1.1.1. Is this the latest version at this time? How do I know? When going to the driver download site it shows version 1.1.0. and the latest. I'm using windows vista 32bit. Constantly searching to solve this problem. Rather be spending my time recording than solving...lol. Any suggestions? Thanks

If you use a USB 2 port and run the advanced driver you should be fine. I think you need to configure the ASIO latency and I/O buffers. Give Cake a call and I'm sure you can get running fine. ANother thing is to eliminate and TSR drivers running in the background and disable any wi-fi adapters. Your problem is very fixable.

Ditch the ASIO4ALL and use the UA-25EX's ASIO driver.
