Sonar X1 - setting up the metronome/click

Hi all, I have having trouble understanding how to set up my metronome. I want to setup it up for Audio playback and during recording too. But I can't get any sound of it. I'm using Sonar X1 with a Tascam US600-- and all other audio functions are working fine. I just can't get any sound out of the metronome. The owners manual doesn't help much. :( Can anyone help? -ryan

In the metronome preferences (right-click one of the metronome icons in the Control Bar), have you chosen Use Audio Metronome?

And have you selected an Output? This can be routed to a bus or directly to a soundcard output. If to a bus, then the bus output needs to go to the soundcard.

should I route the output to Master or Metronome, or should I route it to my interface?

My suggestion is use the Metronome bus, because then you can get the loudness, etc. like you want for that project, and simply mute the buss when you don't want to hear the metronome.

Route the metronome bus to the master if you change your hardware output choice a lot on your interface and always want everything to go there, or route it directly to the hardware if you want to be able to 1) send it to a cue system independently of the master mix so other folks can adjust to suit or 2)use it even if you route the masterbus to someplace else other than "normal" for some reason.

Don't forget to mute it before you do a final mix... :)

just to fill everyone in... after much consternation(!) I got this figured out. Apparently Sonar was looking for the metronome issue in C:\Cakewalk Content\Metronome -- and it actually got installed in C:\Cakewalk Content\Sonar X1 Producer\Metronome -- but I had no way of knowing that until I dug around. Tech support had me to a CTRL-SHIFT launch and everything seems fine now. -ryan
