Sonar X1 snap to function

I have been using Producer 7 and just upgraded to Sonar X1. Somethng is driving me crazy. In Prod 7 I could drop a drum loop on to a track then drop another next to it. It would butt up perfectly to the previous loop if snap to was set to measure, etc. Now, in X1 if I do that the new clip does not butt up to previous one. it just sits wherever I happen to drop it. I have checked the snap to settings. the button is activated (it is blue) I have tried all of the different settings in advanced section of preferneces snap to settings. What am I missing?? This is such a pain!     Turn Magnetic Snap off in the preferences.
