Re:Sonar X1C and Roland OctaCapture 1.5 Driver Problem

Ed Evans Ken, I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to keep us all up-to-date on your Octa-saga. I've been waiting to update my single OC setup, but have been very hesitant to do so because of all the trouble you have been having. Did you ever get anywhere with Roland in terms of having the 1.0 firmware as an option? The would certainly make me feel more comfortable with my pending upgrade. I can't imagine there's anything in particular I can do to help, but if you have a contact at Roland and would like me (us) to send notes asking them for a little more support on this, I'd be happy to do so. Please keep us posted! Ed Thanks Ed. I have not heard anything from Roland at this point. I don't know where I stand with them but I am going to send a very detailed email to them as a follow up to the phone conversation I have had. I don't think I need additional help chiming in on this one but thanks for the offer. They have not gotten me any V1.0 firmware and I see no real hope that they are very interested in it either. I am willing to be surprised. Too bad nobody from Cakewalk (a Roland company) has jumped in here to offer some assistance ;-) Ken

Hi all, I realize this is a very old thread but hoping someone can helpme. I've had Octa-Capture running perfectly since it was originaly released(probably got one of the 1st shipped). Last week I had to replace my HD, now I'm running with 2, and expecting things to run smoothly after reloading all my software, etc. Never had a clue about needing to update FIRMWARE in the Roland interface. But since everything had been running perfectly for all these years, why not just install as before and use the old firmware and drivers? (Machine is 1st gen i7). Oops.. can't find my installation disc. And on Roland's site, they only have the new drivers, for which you have to first install new firmware. Which I think I would really like to avoid doing, because everything worked so well before. In an effort to see how complicated it would be to upgrade the firmware, I downloaded the file and tried to unzip it to read the instructions, and there's nothing inside the .zip folder. So, maybe my instincts were right, stay with what got me there... But of course, I need the old drivers.. Does any of you know where I can find them?

Mine has been updated, but I downloaded the firmware update to check. In the zip file there is a folder octa_sys_v151. Open that folder and there is PDF file with the instructions on how you do the update. My Octa-Capture, with the firmware update and V1.5.2 USB driver/Control Panel works without problems on both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

Hi firebird, Thanks for the info. I got lucky... I finally found my original package in the basement (I'm compulsive like that!) WITH original discs. I installed as if new, and it works perfectly! I'm going to savor having my studio back working, and probably will avoid updating until forced to. I'm on Win 7, and will try to stay here until Win 10 proves itself. I believe in ... If it ain't broke... :) Thank you for the feedback, if I have to go that route I will certainly look for that file. Bob PS I see you have Tranzport - I've been sitting on one in it's box, never used it... does it work well on the newer versions of Sonar? I plan to research and use it soon (or try to sell it), it would make it a lot easier to record myself playing drums.

The Tranzport works well, in every Sonar version I've had including the current Platinum. I'd cry if mine died. It works OK in Win 8 but must be installed in a Vista or Win 7 compatibility mode as the drivers were designed for Vista.

Thanks firebird, just got your message, I've been tied up with end of school (preparing students for recital) and took Pat Pattisons songwriting course on courser, which surprisingly ate up a lot of time. Brand-new HD, starting over installing everything, like going into a new season. Thanks for the good word, I will try the Tranzport, it was a great idea at the time! I using Win 7 so it's looking good there. I wonder if it's 64-bit or only 32 but I can easily find out. Thanks again!
