Sonar X1c & New Roland Octa-Capture Question

Just got a new Octa-Capture today and am running and pretty loaded system with Sonar X1c.  I was playing around with different settings trying to optimize performance/latency.   I originally found that running at 44.1, with ASIO set at the lowest setting 48 samples (setting 2) on the OCTA-CAPTURE Drivers Settings) box and in the Playback and Recording tab under preferences with the Driver Mode set to ASIO, I was getting pops and clicks.  So I changed the Driver Mode to WASAPI and my performance was much better with no pops/clicks.  Unfortunately, I played around with settings a few more times and when I eventually went to go back to WASAPI as the driver mode, I started to get the error:  "Unable to open audio playback device.  Device may not support the current projects's audio format or may be in use."

What did I do wrong and what can I do to get the wonderful WASAPI working again so that my performance is optimal?

Thanks in advance for any help.  Oh, WDM Driver Mode did not work any better than ASIO.

If you're getting the error when launching Sonar, I saw this with my Cake UA-101 with the build355 hotfix, and reported it as a bug (which was acknowledged and "referred to developers").

X1c seems to have made the problem go away for me.

One work-round I found is to close the error message window then when Sonar opens reset the audio prefs to WASAPI. Sometimes it would stick for a while, sometimes not.

I'm not getting the error when I launch Sonar X1c, only when I try to play a song. It doesn't play and instead gives me the error. If I change the Driver Mode to ASIO or WDM it works again. I'm wondering if Windows has possession of the driver - I did play something through Windows Media Player so I'm wondering if that may have caused the problem. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Closing Sonar and then powering down and restarting the OC, then Sonar will cure that.

I use ASIO and have no problems. Did you change the sample rate from the front panel of the OC? Once you make changes, your have to power down and restart the OC.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

Yeah I run the octa no problem ASIO all the way with it.
i'll have to look at the sample rate and get back.
But I have used all 8 channels for recording and zero clicks or pops and zero dropouts with it.
