Sonar X1c and Eastwest Play 3

I found this other thread kind of addressing the same problem but with Play 2 and X1b. I never had an issue with Play 2 and X1b. As a matter of fact, I had updated Play 2 to Play 3.0.21 on X1b and everything worked perfectly.
http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2266893&high=Play+3

I just updated X1b to X1c. Right out of the gate, I went ahead and created a new project, and picked to insert a Play3 instrument. The VST pop-up window for Play3 opened up showing a totally blank screen. Thus, there is no way to select any instrument at all. Rebooted, repeated the drill again, same results.

Then thought in trying an old project that contained a Play3 instance, and it loads up perfectly, shows the VSTi window just fine, loads up the various instruments perfectly. Anyone using Play3 that can try to replicate? What is going on with X1c???

By the way, my ATI video drivers are totally up-to-date, screen resolution is 96dpi, etc... per the aforementioned thread, just in case somebody wondered.

Sorry I cant help, Sonar and PLAY are working fine for me.  The newest PLAY update screwed things with finding samples...then when you attempt to manually find them through the PLAY browser it is slow as heck.  But thats unrelated to Sonar.

Hope you get it figured out

I'm on Play 3.0.15 now and working fine with X1C.

I'm just downloading 3.0.21 now and I'll let you know what happens.

Just updated play to ver 3.0.21 and everything seems to be working fine.

Tested projects started in x1b and starting new in x1c - no problems at all (yet).
So I know that's not much help, except for knowing that it can work :-)

Have you tried over at the soundsonline forum ?.

    Hope you get it sorted.

I've never had those problems with Play that you describe, however I've seen it with other plugs on rare occasions and a plug in scan have usually solved it in one of two ways. 1. Just do a normal scan and everything is fine or 2. If number one doesn't work, remove the VST from the plug in folder, re-scan, move the VST back to the VST folder, scan again and it should be ok. If this fails, try renaming the .dll file, scan, name back, scan and see how it goes. If this doesn't work I hope someone else have a good idea

    Thanks all.

ProjectM- I will try rescanning tonight. Although I tried a few other things yesterday (none worked), I did not think rescanning would be necessary. But I'll try.

Cliff- Just to clarify, a previous project created with X1b works perfectly now with X1c, I actually resorted to using that as my starting point yesterday in the end. But what doesn't work for me is creating a totally brand new, blank project on X1c, and then adding Play3 as an instrument. Did you try this?If not could you please? Much appreciated.

Hi Gusfmm, I did that indeed, tested starting a fresh project in x1c and it works fine here.

I only just upgraded to x1c the other day, and when I saw the play version you're running I
thought it could be related because I was running the 3.0.15. So I upgraded my Play 3 to
3.0.21 which is what you currently have and re-tested both old projects and starting a fresh
one in x1c - still working fine.

If I were you, I'd try the VST rescan. One thing I've done in the past when I was having some
plugin issues was to also click the "Reset All VST Plugins" in the VST section of the preferences
    before doing the scan.
I think it gives you a warning type message like "Are you really sure you want to do this" ...
like it's going to blow up or something.  In that instance it worked for me, so I can only guess
that something did indeed need resetting.

Let us know how you get on.

    Cheers - Cliff

PLAY has had issues in the past with UI repaints or z-order when rendering the UI inside a VST, and I think it had to do with multi-monitor configs.  If I recall correctly it would repaint the UI if I messed around with one of these: mouse over the UI; move the VST window to the other monitor; minimize and restore the VST window.

Do your projects actually play, or are they dead?  Does Play paint correctly in the standalone Play app?

I'm a bit perplex today. Just opened Sonar again, created another new test project, and the VSTi window opened on my left (main) monitor. It shows Play, perfectly...

I get the impression that your suggestion, Treppenwitz, is probably what happened here. I had closed Sonar and rebooted yesterday, and believe Sonar rescan the VST folder completely upon launch. So did not have the need or chance to try that today since everything worked fine.

But again, I do have dual monitors, and the VST window was being created, yesterday, on my secondary (right) monitor. Not sure why things happened differently today... THANKS MUCH to all of you for your help! Will mirror this on the EWQL forum.

p.s. Yes, Play3 worked perfectly yesterday in standalone.
