Sonar X2 Clone Audio Track & Other Issues
Where do I start! Well it started when I came to import audio for ready for mix down, In X1 if you only had one audio track and import numerous audio files it would create separate track for each file (maybe I'm missing a setting here in X2?) but what happened was it imported all 22 tracks into the same track! Anyway, so I thought I would create a blank audio track instead and duplicated 22 times, but oh no that would work either, as you can see from the video it creates the tracks but then deletes them all! I thought maybe there was some conflict with older Sonar programs so I removed all traces of 8.5 and X1 but problem still exists. My set up is still the same, only thing that's changed is the install ox X2. Here's the video... (sorry not best quality, but though it better to do it this way than run a video capture program as well!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIoq6LJcMnw While I'm here I've also noticed in X2 that CPU meter in the performance module (even when idle is pretty high IMO) even when I managed to import just the 22 audio files from a blank project file for mixing, playback just sent it through the roof touching in the red a lot of the time and audio playback really struggled. This never happened in X1. Since the install of X2 I've also noticed my external audio interface often disconnects for no real reason and without warning. All I know is that in X1 I could have numerous instance of Stylus RMX & Omnisphere with no major issues, In X2 this is becoming near impossible :-( BTW for those having the install Rapture issues, here`s what I did, un-install all rapture installs and references, then install rapture as you normally would from the Cakewalk X2 installer. but only selecting Rapture as the program to install. Once installed you should see the standalone version on you desktop, set this so it runs as administrator, then when you load X2 you can register rapture as normal, worked for me anyway :-)

OK tried from a completely blank project in X2 (blank project from X2 template menu), saved as a test file to desktop, added blank audio track, duplicated it 22 times, it seems to struggle but blank audio tracks didn't disappear this time, but something isn't right somewhere :-(

Copying/moving clips by control-click is way inconsistent. Drop a clip on a track with multiple takes results in replacing the clip in the first take. A new take lane should be automatically created unless placing the clip on a lane.

I have also found that importing multiple audio files is much more difficult in X2 than it used to be in X1. Now the imported audio files pile up on top of each other on one track. There should at least be an option to import the as separate tracks or on one track but after one another. I really don't see the point of piling clips, why would anyone want it to work like that?

It seems to only work as expected (ie., one clip to one new audio track) when the project has no audio tracks present. 1) No audio tracks in project -- Import audio creates a new audio track for each imported audio file. 2) Audio track(s) present in project -- Imports all audio files to first audio track (if none selected) or to selected audio track. 3) Multiple audio tracks selected -- Imports all audio files to first audio track selected. Rasure: If you want lots of empty audio tracks, don't try to clone them, just right-click in the track view and choose "Insert multiple tracks...".

What do you mean piles clips in track? A new track lane for each clip? Rob:: Cloning maintains settings.

Hi Rasure, The clone issue is likely an old bug with folders and synth tracks. The cloned tracks are not being deleted but simply put into the wrong folder. We'll fix it. The import thing seems to be specific to when you import via the dialog since it works ok when you drag and drop multiple files via the browser. Well look into the dialog issue. Please don't format your system - that won't do anything but waste your time :)

We SONAR users have it good. The fact that the Bakers converse with us users really is fantastic. Noel, thank you so much for all your dedication and hard work. You and your team are setting the bar for everyone else in my opinion. I am lucky to have went to Cakewalk route.

Bit too late Noel lol, it needed doing anyway, really needed a good clean. Seems to be running a lot faster and smoother now. Install of X2 was smooth too, Got rid of a lot of demo VST plug-ins that were cluttering up too. Ah yes I see now, audio tracks are being placed in another folder! Yes, just tried dragging in from browser (multiple audio tracks) and work fine that way. I for one really appreciate the Cakewalk staff chipping in on the forums as it can solve a lot issues pretty much there and then, so thank you and after watching FBB Sonar X2 video, learnt alot of new stuff too :-)
