Sonar X2 and Melodyne Essentials bounce problems

I am rather new to using Melodyne and yesterday I was applying some minor fixes to a vocal track which I then bounced to clips with Melodyne in the effects bin. I made sure to turn off PC and turn down all sends so as not to include any effects in the final  mixdown. The resulting track sounds like someone singing in a tin can(and it didn't sound that way before)...any idea how this could be happening?

It looks as if I'll need to make a total retrack because I saved the mixdown and didn't have a backup track. Yeah I know I SHOULD have done that.

The only way I can describe the sound is that it sounds squashed.

Can you find the original file in the audio folder of the session?
Depending on how huge the session is, it may require some digging and possibly a bit of thinking in terms of "Where did this clip start again??". But, unless I'm mistaken, bounced clips don't overwrite the originals do they?

Starise, Sorry I don't have an answer to this specific situation, but I use SyncToy to back up Melodyne files daily.  A lot of things can screw up Melodyne so that it can no longer find its original transfer files.

One note: SyncToy won't work if the file is in use, so you may have to quit Sonar to do the back-up (which only takes a second).  If Sonar is running, it won't hurt anything but SyncToy will say the back-up failed on some of the files.

What you describe sounds like two copies of the vocal playing at the same time- the original and the one that was processed. Not sure why, though.

    Peace,

Thanks guys for the help here. Never heard of SyncToy Konrad but if it's a toy I'll probably like it, seriously....I plan to look into that thanks.

Fooman, I think I'm probably screwed here on my original track. I didn't bother to copy it and I am fairly certain that bouncing to clips and saving are not good if you plan to save something.Maybe I'm wrong. I could have probably acted with undo if I had not saved anything. This goes to show if in doubt copy if really in doubt copy somewhere else.

Tunekicker you have me wondering about this....great suggestion. I'll check that out as well. Thanks.

    Here's the link for SyncToy:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15155

It is a free Microsoft product that the Sweetwater tech installed for me, so no risk if you get it from the official Microsoft site.  I mainly use it for Melodyne but it is handy for a lot of cases in which you want to back up a folder or group of folders periodically.
