Sonar X2 crashes religously after 5-10 min of use

I upgraded to X2 with the early preorder folks, and the first time i installed i had the same issue. I reinstalled everything and it seemed to fix it but now it's back and I do not want to have to reinstall the program every time this happens. I run an i7 with 12gb of ram, windows 7, and actually run sonar on a different user profile than my everyday workflow to isolate it as much as possible (in response to past driver conflicts). More details: Once i open a project, i can work one it for a bit but it'll always be when i'm mixing something during playback that once i stop playback, everything locks up, after 10 or so seconds the screen will turn that light grey, and then i exit and "close program" rather than "wait to respond" (it never will). This is all annoying, but the biggest issue is that to reopen Sonar at all, I have to restart my system. I can start the task manager and find a Sonar.exe running but the process refuses to end (actually sometimes i can wait it out but it takes a bit). I hope someone out there can help me... X2 is brilliant otherwise.

Are you using any M-Audio gear? Supposedly their drivers won't let Sonar close properly. As far as the crashes if you have installed the quick fix (it is stickied at the top of this sub forum) you probably should as Star Tekh pointed out. Cheers.

I'm gonna install the update (THANKS for the link!) but i AM running an M-Audio fast track ultra 8r as my main interface. I've had my fair share of issues with it, but it's been running fine since I made this a dedicated user account and restart after every session. If there are any other fixes for this device I would be very appreciative for those as well haha

I'm running on an Asus N53-SV laptop with the nvidia GT540M graphics card (1gb ram), windows 7, and (as stated above b4 seeing your last post) the fast track ultra 8r as an interface.

I just bought an M-Audio Oxygen 25 and although I only played with it briefly I didn't have any issues either but it seems to be quite a common issue. There have been many threads about it. Sonar just won't let the drivers go or something and people have to reboot. Might be a configuration thing. Frankly I'm not sure how X2 (or Sonar in general) manages to cause so many people so many problems but so many others have it working with minimal issues. I am one of the latter. I've had a few glitches but nothing catastrophic and I haven't even installed the Quick Fix yet.

    I blame gremlins. ;-)

Welp... there you have it. Fast Track Pro has been reported to cause this type of issue. I'd see if there are any driver updates from M-Audio and see if the forum or tech support can help get your settings where they need to be.

Seriously some people have no problems with the Fast Track and others report problems. No idea why. I came very close to buying one myself but settled on the Focusrite 18i6. Couldn't be happier. Cheers.

I do agree that you will see improved performance with an external drive, by splitting data and programs (with OS) onto separate drives you make it easier for the computer to simultaneously access and transfer OS and program requests, as well as loading things like samples and storing project audio.  If it all has to happen on 1 drive it can bog down pretty quickly.

Please detail your ports - USB 2?  USB 3?  eSata?

But first, let's fix original thread stuff.
