Sonar X2 (x64) crashes after I insert patch change

I am not familiar with any previous versions of Sonar. I have Sonar X2 (x64) on Windows 7. In any case, I've discovered that when I do a live midi recording (using a keyboard as insput) with any of the soft synths, and I do a program change or changes, the changes work fine. But when I finish recording, and then attempt to go into the piano roll view, this causes Sonar to crash. Apparently I am the only one with this problem? Is there something that I am doing wrong?

I had similar issues with the VST plugins causing crashes, but not specifically with what you are seeing. I would add a plug-in and X2 would white screen on me. Ultimately, I had a bad X2 setup file, so the only advice I can give is to review the post/rant I made on that. http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2731387 If you have something that is repeatable, I would also recommend sending the issue to technical support with as much detail as possible. Best regards, Michael

This is a noted issue; a bug report was submitted and accepted by support - you're not alone.

    Workarounds:

    1. Don't put tracks with program changes into either the PRV or the track 'notes' display mode.
    2. If you absolutely must edit a track with program changes, open that track in 'list' mode. Write down the time/bank/patch data of the change, then delete the patch change from the list. You may now edit in PRV or Staff as usual. Close PRV and track 'note' displays when finished and use the list view editor to add the patch change back in.

    Not fun - but workable.

I'm pretty sure this issue will be fixed in the very next patch/maintenance release - if you can hold on till then...

A third solution - if you can manage this method...

Split the midi at the program change and add that portion to a new track. Delete the patch change - but set the patch using the track controls. Send the new track to a different channel...

This all depends, though,  on a synth being both multi-channel and multi-voice capable. Easy to do with most VST-based synths, but for HW synths - it all depends....
