Sonar X2a: Trilogy causes VST Scan to hang

Hello.  I am using Sonar X2a in Win 7 (x64).

Today, I install my Spectrasonics Trilogy (bass VST instrument).  When I launched Sonar, the VST Scan started scanning, and then hung - the VST Scan window shows it hanging when scanning the Trilogy .dll file.  I used Task Manager to shut down VST Scan, and then Sonar launched.  Predictably, Sonar does not recognize the Trilogy plug-in.

I've tried three times now, always with the same result.  When launching Sonar, the VST Scan hangs while scanning the Trilogy .dll file.

Can anyone suggest what I should do to resolve this?  The Spectrasonics Support people are on "to-do" list (they are on the West Coast and are not yet open).

Thanks.   jmp

Hello.  Just got off the phone with Spectrasonics technical support.  They say this is now a common problem with Trilogy - Trilogy is an older product, and obviously they haven't bothered to fix it.

grrr....

Their solution is for me to install SavvyHost - a vst hosting application that will allow me to launch Trilogy and complete the Trilogy authorization procedure.

grrrr...

I will report back.

Hmmm...maybe there's a silver lining here.

SAVIhost (www.hermannseib.com) is a small executable made to launch one VSTi for the purpose of using the VSTi as a standalone instrument or for testing.  This might be an interesting tool.

OK.  So using SAVIhost, I was able to launch the Trilogy plug-in (pro-tip: use SAVIhostx86 for 32-bit plug-ins (like Trilogy), use SAVIhostx64 for 64-bit plug-ins), and complete the Trilogy authorization process.  With the plug-in properly authorized, Sonar was able to scan the VST plug-ins and launch as normal.  Yay!

So SAVIhost turns out to be kinda useful.  Kudos to SAVIhost.

Shame on Spectrasonics for being aware of this problem, making their customers jump through extra hoops to use their licensed software, and relying on a third-party unpaid developer to provide a solution.  grrr...

Now I have a second problem, which I will describe in a separate post.

Hey - that's GREAT news, and it looks like you did a good job of ferreting out the needed info and solution.

If this is now resolved for you, it would help others in the forum if you either marked the thread as 'Answered', or simply edited the subject line of your initial post and added something like 'Resolved' or whatever term you want.

That would make it easier for someone else to find this information if they have the same kind of error, and it also saves others in the forum from having to read down through the thread - wanting to help, and then seeing the thread already has its resolution.

That frees them up to spend that same time in helping others.

There is no requirement for you to do any of this - it's just a suggestion, and lots of folks do this.  :)

Thanks - and glad you get to use your plugin after all.

Hello.  How do I mark the thread as answered?  I notice on your comment, on the bottom right, are check boxes for "answered" and "helpful".  But I do not see those boxes in any of my comments

You may not be able to mark your posts as answered or helpful because you created the thread. I just did it for you.
