Sonar X2a and Steven Slate Drums (Possible Bug)
So I am hoping that someone can help me. I think I have come across a possible bug in X2a but I am not sure if I am just doing something wrong or not. So the issue is basically this. I have a project that I am working on and every time I add more that one instance of SSD to my synth rack, save the project, and then try and re open the project I am left with Zero audio out put from sonar. It os all most like something hidden is muted. All the meters in the console view are moving and jumping (this includes that sound card's master meter), but there is not audio. If I delete either instance save and reopen the sound is back. Very weird. Does any one have any ideas. I would really appreciate the help. Andrew

I've had the same thing happen to me. However, if I play the project for a couple of measures before I touch anything else, SSD4 plays just fine and all is normal.

Were you having trouble with just ssd play or the whole project. If I have two instances I don't hear anything at all ssd or others.

I don't see how it can be SSD if you have levels at the soundcard master.

I know that the issue seems a bit bizarre but I am fairly confident in my assessment that SSD is causing this problem. He was the testing logic that I followed After opening project with two instances of SSD and finding not audio could be hear i started trouble shooting. 1) I started with a working project (meaning audio is able to be heard which contained one instance of SSD in synth rack. (Saved file as A) 2) Added Second instance of SSD (Saved as B) 3) Added ProChannel preset to SSD2 Track 1 (Saved as C) 4) Added ProChannel preset to SSD2 Track 2 (Saved as D) 5) Re-Routed SSD tracks to appropriate buses (Saved as E) At this time all audio can be heard. 6) Closed from project 7) Re-open Saved file E. Meters were moving but not audio. Closed Project 8) Re-open Saved File B. Meters were moving but not audio. 9) From Saved filed B, removed first instance of SSD, still no audio can be heard, Saved as F. Closed Project 10) Re opened F that only contained second instance of SSD, audio can now be heard. 11) Added prochannel and presets to SSD 2 Tracks 1 and 2) (Saved as G) 12) Re added first instance on SSD. Saved as H. (Audio can be heard) Closed file 13) Re open H. No audio can be hear. Close project. 14) Re open G. Audio can be heard. Based on this testing it would certainly seem that there is some conflict some where that SSD is causing if two instances are present at once in Sonar. Thoughts?

Turn in to Bug Reporter here and to Steven. He'll look at it for sure and fix it if it's on his end.

I use one instance for drums and another instance for cymbals and have never had that problem in X1 or X2. I HAVE had the problem of meters moving and no sound but not at all related to SSD4. Strange.

Did you ever track down the source of you problem?

HighestOlive Did you ever track down the source of you problem? No I didn't. It's hopeful to hear someone else with this issue. If you call Cakewalk support they'll just blame it on everything except Sonar.

This sounds an awful lot like you are exceeding the buffer size and Sonar's audio engine is shutting down, leaving you with no sound. I have this problem with synths other than Steven Slate SSD, and it gets me every time. I think the cure is to raise your buffers ... at least it's something to try.

I will try raising the buffer size and then report back. The only thing I wonder about is why it doesn't seem to happen until you try and re-open the project. Can't hurt to try though.

Buffer size doesn't effect it for me. If my buffer is too small the audio engine won't start or I get crackles.
