Sonar X3 EuCon Controller
New to EuCon. The X3 docs say I have to chose the EuCon Controller under control surfaces. However I don't see this plugin in the list. Where do I find it? What am I supposed to do to get my Artist Mix working with Sonar X3?
Thanks Tab

Hey TabSel ! I'm curious whether you have had any luck with the information that scook provided above. I've had strong curiosity about some of the AVID controllers and have posted some questions to this forum myself. Once again I was a little disappointed in the number of responses to your thread. It seems that there may not be a whole lot of us that want to (or have successfully been able to) use this hardware with our beloved SONAR? Have you been able to establish enough communication with your control surface to justify the cost of the Artist Mix? Have you achieved a reasonable level of functionality using it? Any observations or experiences would be appreciated! Dave

Hi, I installed this X1 Eucon Thing, and added Eucon to my surfaces. "...Have you achieved a reasonable level of functionality using it?..." no, not at all, I'm sorry to say, so "...Have you been able to establish enough communication with your control surface to justify the cost of the Artist Mix?..." no, which is the reason I'll return it to my dealer. I purchased the Artist Mix to be used via EuCon in Cubase, Sonar and the like, like advertised on Avids site, and with other applications using MCU Emulation, like advertised on their site, too, being able to Switch between These apps, like advertised on their site, too. But, I have to say it, it simply does not work at a Level justifying the cost. On Mac, you currently can only have ONE MCU application, there's a bug in the MCU Emulation Driver which simply doesnt add the needed amount of MIDI ports to the System. On PC, adding applications to be used via MCU Emulation, restarting the System, results in Bluescreens. And it doesnt simply work at all. On Mac, the MCU Emulation doesnt work like a MCU Emulation ;) The MCU sports two LCD rows, the Artist Mix doesnt Support the 2nd row it mirrors the first, somehow), so ist useless, as you can't see which Parameters you are Controlling or which values you are at... I thought at first that each MCMix button sends at least a MIDI command in MCU Emulation, so I could hack together myseld, in Max, or C++, or anything. But this isn't the case, the MCMix behaves weird, not MCU compatible at all, doesnt send MIDI for all ist Buttons, doesnt Support the MCU Display sysex... No, it doesnt work, and cannot be broght to work on my own programming skills. X1 EuCon Support in Sonar doesnt work. Switching to EQ knob set Displays Parameter Names in the MCMix Display which arent there. Adjusting values adjust any other Parameter, value readout is for another Parameter. I wasnt able to do anything more than control volume, pan, solo, mute, rec, some other things... No, this isnt enough for the Price. No plugin instantiation. I didnt dig deep into act, but I didnt want to. I expected more out of the box for this Price. It doesnt work. The only application (I own), that really works well with the EuCon is Cubase Pro 8, but then, there are flaws, too. No, this unit isnt worth it (for me). Maybe for Logic / ProTools Users? Don't know. I am very dissapointed and feel mislead by Avids Advertising/Documentation, it simply doesnt work as they Claim. I will return it.

If you install the Eucon drivers and the sonar patch (2 different things), then define the Eucon in the MIDI section in the Preference menu, it will work. I have ubeen using Eucon control surfaces for almost 3 years now and for what i sue it form, it works good. CJ

What do you control with the MCMix, when you select an audio channel and press the MCMix EQ knob set button?
With my install, the 8 encoders show parameters for low freq. gain, low mid freq, gain and so on. Dialing the encoders control any parameter of the first inserted pro channel module... Without relation to what's shown in the OLEDs.

Thanks for your commentary TabSel. That's what I thought that I might hear. CJ seems to be happy with his implementation though!?. I'd really like to understand what functions he uses the hardware to control. If you'd care to chime in CJ, I'd be interested in hearing about that. Is it just the bread and butter, "volume, pan, solo, mute, rec" stuff?....or have you been able to control plugin's, ProChannel modules, basic SONAR workflow commands like switching among the various views, using the Fly-out EQ's, navigating and selecting through the Browser, or for using comping features or the like?
