Sonar X3 Power?

Just curious. :-)

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

If Cakewalk releases an X3 version of SONAR, then I'll be doing a book about it. Is that vague enough?

In the meantime, you can find more info about the Power! Books at http://www.garrigus.com/ or http://www.garrigus.com/powerbooks.asp

And new books are always announced in the DigiFreq newsletter: http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/subscribe.asp

Thanks for asking!

It's a shame that Cake doesn't make you more in the know, Scott. I'd love to see your Power books release along side or near Sonar releases. Granted, some things change right before a release, but most of it is set enough that it wouldn't be too hard to get the meat and potatoes done so you can add the changes fairly quickly and get to publish ASAP.

It would not shock me if Scott was given early access to Sonar products, considering their products have a symbiotic relationship.  Third party support and documentation is a factor for some when weighing product choices.  I think it just takes time to write a book with so much info.  For speculation purposes ( and i did grab a random number), let's say that the beta of a new product was finalized was close enough to begin writing the book 2 months before actual release.  Unless Scott was content to simply add hastily written appendix chapters for new features, it's going to take more than two months to give the thorough treatment we are used to from his books.  Like many of us, I am sure Scott has to take the time to discover things that are simply not covered well in the documentation . Look at mostly books released simultaneously with a product and they are typically just the manual with nicer pics and the author's attempt to sound clever.  The exception is often books made by the company itself, but that usually pisses me off because it seems like they were holding back pertinent info for the shear purposes of selling me something they should have given me when i paid hundreds for their product.  I figure by the time I have taken my own time to sort through the basics of thre product (and time for Cakewalk to release a patch), I'll be ready for a book with features that supplement what I already know.  I would much rather he take his time and give me something useful.

Hey guys...

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the interest. Dubdisciple got it right though... in order to create a quality book, it takes a number of months. Not just for writing, but there's also editing, indexing, layout, design, etc. The SONAR Power! books are a professional series. I'm sure you've purchased books before with lots of editing errors, crappy layout, or a bad index. Those are types of books that are rushed out the door. If I ever released a book like that, not only would it hurt my reputation, but I would never hear the end of it from the readers!

If you think you can learn SONAR on your own, then more power to you. But my books do provide a professional learning experience with lots of additional tips, techniques, and insights you won't find elsewhere. But unfortunately, producing something like that takes time.

Thanks!
Scott

X2 Power came out 5 months after X2, ie half way through the lifecycle. At this point many users have already worked through the pain of adapting methods and discovering new tools...

While I fully agree with Scott that serious time is needed for a huge book to be written prepped edited and released however to my mind there is no reason for one huge book every time a new Sonar version comes out (X1 excepted) as the differences in workflow and tools is <<10%.

IMO to provide sustainable power (pun intended) and value, this book needs to be out within 2 months of release of X3, and this could be accomplished with a smaller book dealing with the changes.. ie an X3 addendum.

if you have X3 you check in this book first, if its not there then it hasn't changed from X2 and you pick up your X2 book.

Mystic38 makes a very good point. I always purchase a Power Book each time I upgrade. Too bad there could not just be some kind of addendum section for purchase. I would think electronic books would make this quite easy.

That type of arrangement doesn't work, which is why you don't see it available for any other book on the market. A new edition of a book always consists of an updated full edition. If a publisher just put out one full book and then addendums thereafter, people who didn't purchase every single release would have to go back and purchase every release they missed in order to get all the content.

Anyway... I know the publisher won't do it (no other publisher is doing it either), so it's a moot point, unfortunately. Sorry guys...

Thanks for asking though! I appreciate hearing your opinions.

... and now no excuse not to write power fly fishing.. I didn't forget...

I keep getting emails from amazon wanting to know if I wanna sell my sonar power books... because they were tricky to get in the UK as the right price last time, I didn't bother.

I got more into groove3 video stuff also, as I use a lot of plugins etc that they cover = works out decent enough to get a year pass , when they have them on offer around xmas time

Fog
... and now no excuse not to write power fly fishing.. I didn't forget...

I keep getting emails from amazon wanting to know if I wanna sell my sonar power books... because they were tricky to get in the UK as the right price last time, I didn't bother.

LOL! Oh, it's in the works, as usual...

By the way, the X3 edition will be available internally on the Kindle, so you'll be able to get the eBook without paying shipping. That'll be nice, no?

Thanks!
Scott
