Sonar X3 e and Kontakt Pianos from Komplete 5
I was wondering if anyone knew if the pianos from Komplete 5 would work in Sonar X3 before I go crazy searching my house for them. I really liked the pianos, but didn't like the Kontakt player/interface and was hoping I could just use them as a plug in in X3 and maybe the Aria player would recognize them? Thanks.

I believe the Kontakt format instruments need to be converted to aria's format if you don't like Kontakt. At least there is some paid converters for this job.

There is also the option to try if you find other pianos for a good price or try use free ones. One good free one is the cv piano. There is a guide on Youtube to optimize it. Then there is a free Grand piano from xln: http://www.jrrshop.com/fr...udio-studio-grand-free

Have you spent some quality time with the True Pianos that come with SONAR? They're quite tweakable, and you can get some pretty cool sounds.

I use the Kontakt 5 Akoustik Pianos as libraries in Sonar X3e, by attaching them to Kontakt 5. There are a BUNCH more piano sounds to pick from with these libraries then there are in the native Kontakt Factory Library sounds or the others you get with something like Ultimate 8. Bob Bone

Thanks everyone. I appreciate you comments. Hey, Rob Bone, do you mean that I can use the Komplete 5 Akoustik piano in Sonar X3, and it'll plug in and show up in my plug ins list? Wait, now I think I remember, I only had to use Kontakt 3 player to play the Native Instruments in Sonar, but maybe the Akoustic Piano had it's own graphical interface. Hmm..thanks.

Also, thanks Craig A. I have used True Pianos and they "seemed" to sound good enough, but I wanted to A/B them again the pianos from Komplete 5 as I "think" those sounded good too. I guess I didn't have confidence in the True Piano because of it's basic overall look, but if you are endorsing it, what the heck do I know. I trust your ears over mine. Thanks again.
And Kakku, thanks, I'll look into those converters.

I just used True Pianos on a recent project because I could tweak it easily to sound more "rock and roll" - I needed it to cut through a mix. Worked great. The Kontakt ones probably would have worked too. A lot of times differences are quantitative rather than qualitative...Synthogy's Ivory is good too. The days of crappy sampled pianos are, thankfully, behind us.

Thanks, Craig, got it, I understand. My first synth piano was the Roland Sound Canvas 55 in 1991. Things have progressed nicely since then. I'm trying to remember if I used to read you on Compuserve. Were you part of those forums? I never got into the AOL thing during the 90s, although I did join AOL in 91 when there were only 50,000 members and then never used it. I'm pretty sure I read you in many different magazines, but I'm trying to remember if you popped into the Recording forum on Compuserve.

I have the LIBRARIES for the Akoustik Pianos added to the search path for Kontakt, and then Kontakt plays them just fine. Bob Bone

The OP is talking about KOMPLETE 5 while everyone else is discussing KONTAKT 5. Just thought I'd mention it as the pianos available in each would be vastly different.

Thanks, Mudjel. Yes, I'm kinda lost now but figured I'd just try to install the Akoustic Piano and see what happens. I don't have the Kontakt player installed in Sonar X3e and I don't want it as I never like it.

I attempted to be careful in how I stated my earlier post - there was definite attempt to discuss both Akoustik Piano, from Komplete 5, and Kontakt 5, as what I posted involves using Akoustik Piano within Kontakt 5, if it is available to the OP. I USE the Akoustik Piano libraries, from Komplete 5, IN Kontakt 5, and I wrote it that way in my other post because it directly relates to a potential way for the OP to be able to access the Komplete 5 Akoustik Piano library sounds in X3, by attaching them to Kontakt 5. To do the above, you would need to have Kontakt 5, most likely the full version, rather than the free player. Akoustik Piano was dropped, beginning with Komplete 6, and piano sounds were expanded a bit within the Kontakt 5 Factory Library sounds. For a time, I attempted to continue to use Akoustik Piano, but at some point long ago it quite working in either Sonar or even in Windows - think it was when I moved to Windows 7 x64. SOOO, if the OP has or gets Kontakt 5, for SURE you can add the Komplete 5 Akoustik Piano libraries to Kontakt 5, and then access the full compliment of piano sounds from it - and there are some absolutely FABULOUS sounds from Akoustik Piano that I much prefer over what is available in the watered down ones that come with Komplete 6 and beyond, in Kontakt 5 alone. I use Akoustik Piano library sounds as my go to piano sounds, all the time. I do know that Kontakt reads a whole bunch of different kinds of file formats, and it certainly has no problems with the Akoustik Piano sounds. I do not know what sound file formats something like Dim Pro reads, and I am also not completely sure if the free Kontakt Player could use the Akoustik Piano sounds or not. Perhaps someone else can offer info on that. Please note that any caps above is only for emphasis, and not any indication whatsoever of anger or tone or any of that. :) Hope the above clarifies my earlier posts that discussed Kontakt 5. Ni instruments will only work in kontakt (or player) unless you use some translation tool (all of which are hit'n'miss) or spend weeks reprogramming the instrument in a new player, certainly aria player won't be able to use them, the only sample player that can read NKIs natively is (was) the samplelord vst, but that's had no dev for 2 years or so now... tl/dr: use the kontakt interface or find a different piano :-) hth

Agreed 100% about translation tools. There are too many nuances in sampler parameters for one-size-fits-all solutions.
