Sonar X3e - No sound from soft synths using Project Temples after saving and reopening!
Hello, I'm using Sonar X3e and I have created a simple Project Template with one instance each of Superior Drummer 2.0 and Kontakt 5 as well as one corresponding MIDI track for each. I set the appropriate channels on each MIDI track and both Superior Drummer and Kontakt respond via MIDI just fine and there is audio coming from each soft synth in the rack. But, when I save this as a project template (cwt) and close, then reopen the newly created project template for use there is absolutely no sound from any of the synths in the rack. The MIDI is still responding as I can see the meter on the MIDI tracks when I press a key on my controller, but no audio from the soft synths. The proper output to my interface is selected just as it was when everything was working initially, but there's just no sound or audio meter response, not even when clicking on any of the drums on Superior Drummer's GUI. But, if I delete the soft synths and reload them exactly as I initially did when I created the template then they have sound again and everything works. What's going on do you think? Again, nothing has changed about the audio output. I create the template and at that moment it works, so I save and close. Then when I open and try to actually use the template there is no sound or meter response from the synth rack until I delete and reload the synths. What am I missing? Anyone else ever had this problem? Thank you for any help.

I am currently fighting this fight and is very consistent in nature (MIDI routing shifts that cannot be recovered without re-insertion of the VSTi). Just out of curiosity, do you also have the new SONAR installed?

I think I just tracked down the root cause of mine and posted it here. I am not sure if this applies to your situation but found that if a SONAR is opened by routing a file to it (i.e. launching SONAR from a file) that the MIDI routing fails. Not tried this with a cwt, but an easy way to check. 1) Exit SONAR 2) Launch only the SONAR application (no file) 3) Open your cwt via either the Quick Start menu or File menu I have not tried my issue with a cwt yet, so not sure about creating a "New" project using a template.

Hi mettelus, your tip actually did work for me, I just tried it - I created a whole new project template, saved/closed it as a .cwt and then reopened it from within the Quick Start popup and everything in the template worked as I had initially arranged it. However, when I double clicked on the .cwt file its self I found that all the routing had been lost again like before. But the project template does open with all the correct routing from within the Quick Start though. That's just how it's gonna have to be I guess, but at least it works that way and now I can actually make use of project templates. Thanks again dude, and perhaps this can help someone who may search.

I am glad it worked for you. That issue has been plaguing me for a long time but never tracked it down until today, and I am ecstatic that the workaround is a simple one, TBH.

Yeah, I just discovered that this MIDI routing fail is also the case for me when trying to open ANY kind of project directly from double clicking the file - when I do that there is no sound from the VSTis and no meter response from their GUIs. But when I open any of those projects from the Quick Start then it works. Sucks, but I'm glad too that your workaround is simple, as at some point in the near future I'd have probably spent hours trying to sort it out getting all upset that I'd have to reinsert the VSTis for ALL my projects. I know that will never be fixed at this point, but I am sticking with X3e for a while. I do not currently have the new Sonar. Thanks again
