Which begs the question: Why wasn't Sonar X4 released in Nov 2014?

For what it's worth, I was in the Gibson Pavillion tent at CES yesterday and Cakewalk had a very small area showing X3. I talked to someone from Cakewalk and asked about adding varispeed to SONAR.  The rep was very coy about new features, but said X4 will be announced in 10 days.  I asked if the release date would be in September and was told it would be days/hours after the announcement.

I just created this account to share this tidbit.  Take it for what it's worth.

It would be Great if it becomes available during winter NAMM 2015.  I don't really care about New features as much as I do about getting some things fixed.

Interesting that I just purchased the Sonar X3 Power book a couple weeks ago...

NAMM would be the perfect place to announce X4 and show it off. Not only would tons of people who might not otherwise see it would get a chance to experience Sonar and it would be reassuring to many of us that there would have been a lot of care in getting rid of bugs because the last thing you want to do is show off your new program to potential consumers and companies only to have it go belly up mid demonstration.

True,  but nothing beats a large group of beta-testers for finding bugs.

I wish Cake would publish a list of fixes available that X4 should bring to the X3 Users. No use keeping it secret now.

I'm not familiar with how Cakewalk handles updates, but once X4 is released is that the end of the road for X3 updates to fix any bugs that are still present?

That is usually the case, updates for the prior version are no more.  It would probably be unreasonable to expect them to maintain 2 separate versions even if it was possible.

indeed, bugfixes will be a part of x4 owic, x3 will no longer be updated, unless they change they way they've always done it

So, any guesses as to when the cutoff would be for a free upgrade? I bought X3 studio on Jan 4.  It's very stable on my system, so I won't mind sticking with it. Unless...

I assume that once X4 is announced, there will be a period, usually 45 days, to get a free upgrade to X4 for persons that bought X3 in that time frame.

Win 10 Pro x64, 32Gb DDR3 ram, Sonar Platinum, Cubase 9.5, Mackie MCU Pro, Cakewalk VS 100, Roland Octa-Capture,  A 800 Pro, Carver M-1.5t amp & C4000 pre amp, various mics, drums and brass instruments.

And away we go!
