Sonar and Kontakt 5
This is happening alot. I'll compose a guide track, maybe 3 or 4 instances of Kontakt with for example, The Giant, Spitfire solo strings and Cinebrass....The session goes well.... All records beautifully.... I close down Sonar and come back hours later and open the project to find all the articulation has gone bonkers and the automation is wrong thus rendering the sketch pretty useless as the vibe has completely gone (therefore some kind of Midi lost in translation bobbins) I know Sonar has issues with Guitar Rig and freezing synths and restoring back to presets....
Is there something that needs to be addressed between NI and Cakewalk here?
I totally rely on "that human touch" in controlling my sound libraries in Kontakt and Sonar.....
Thoughts?

Hasn't happened to me yet but I don't use Spitfire or Cinebrass, perhaps that makes a difference. Can you give specific steps to reproduce or is it one of those voodoo "now that everyone's looking it does work" issues?

Also I am finding alot that volume resets to zero in Kontakt despite numerous attempts at recording automation on that track.
Nothing in event viewer, just RESET TO ZERO and a big sigh and alot of workarounds from me. I am sure NI and Sonar should work better together, long standing user here and to be honest its never really been completely right (excuse the pun)... I havent been able to test this on PT as I dont compose there (nor do I want to) but my PT friends on Macs dont seem to have this problem.

Its hard to reproduce really.... Lets say I record a violin part in Spitfire Solo via Kontakt 5, in the session the keyswitches respond and record fine, any automation I record is fine.....I close the session, reopen it and its all gone, so basically I lose any kind of human shaping in the part and get very harsh transitional strings.....The thing thats puzzling me is there is nothing in event viewer in Sonar...It seems that somehow Sonar and Kontakt refuse to play ball somehow in recalling key human touches via keyswitches, volume controls, modulation wheel etc etc...Let me stress, If I record automation in Sonar its fine (which doesnt actually help), it just seems that Kontakt and Sonar arent playing ball properly.... I did bring up a kind of issue like this with Guitar Rig 5 and freezing and unfreezing and losing presets.... with my problem seeking brain I am kinda of assuming that all these issues are related. So in essence, Sonar is fine at recording its own in house automation, but when relating to NI Kontakt 5 and *some* instruments, it certainly does not. Now, as my DAW I expect it to, and NI, as my instrument handler I expect it to do the bloody same! Otherwise whats the point in composing with these tools? Again, today, when sound designing I was trying to automate a volume on a track from a Kontakt instrument and no matter what every time I hit space to play it resets everything unless the automation is recorded on Sonar itself rather than the plug in. Something is getting lost in translation it seems.

Of course John, I save every three changes (no auto save either - obvious reasons) I dont get this with anything else of NI other than SOME libraries in Kontakt and certainly in Guitar Rig with resetting volume. (Reaktor fine for example)...and yes, I have legit licenses before anyone asks

Spitfire strings solo "Solo Viola legato NV_V BPD v1_1" patch is my first port of call, but volume automation on Gtr rig 5 within the plug in doesnt work, Cinebrass Pro also resets itself...actually also Symphobia modulation doesnt work as it should.

I use KONTAKT a lot with multiple instances as well and can't say that I have ever experienced issues as you have outlined. The ZERO'ed data however, has been caused by a MIDI setting preferences that ZERO controller data at project start (or something like that) that I use to make sure all MODULATION and other settings get reset at the start of a song... perhaps this is ZEROing out the VOLUME or EXP cc's you may be using to control the output gain of KONTAKT tracks? No idea on the rest of your trials but sounds real ugly to me. Jim

Jim, yeah word....first point of call was zero controllers, so thanks anyway good wise Sir but am all over that like a tramp on chips. I honestly think theres some weird rubbish with NI and Sonar. *massive sigh* Usually I can find a workaround that I dont bore people with but the point of my post is to gather forces in fellow NI users that *may* have experienced said issues/gremlins so we can all gang up on Sonar and NI (and then make it work)

This is something I need to do, record a tester and then inspect EV before saving and restarting to see if something is getting AWOL. The problem is, as I am sure one can agree, the last thing you wanna do is inspect EV having recorded something and get all BETA... Having said that I shall try this tomorrow with the same Kontakt Instruments and recreate the same vibe, check EV- reload and report back.... But, I strongly suspect EV is a bit if a red herring.

Naa, the point was there was plenty of code changes around VST's , so you would never know if X3D would fixes this unless you install it (changelogs are just guidelines, code is code). There is a chance it will... However as I said the point is moot as far as you are concerned, you are not installing X3D because of a particular issue, and that's quite understandable... so my advice now is wait for X3E and see what happens (and after installation, do the thing I'm not allowed to talk about).

Out of curiosity, what is the video issue regarding X3d? There were many posts about video "problems" initially with X3d, but they related to using Microsoft Media Foundation as the default. This document explains how to switch back to DirectShow as the default, which seemed to take care of things.

This document explains how to switch back to DirectShow as the default, which seemed to take care of things.
That made little difference to me as it goes, its well documented in another thread and X3c is fine for my video work with clients so wont rock the boat on that one till X3e or X4.

Just to be clear, the articulations are triggered by keys right? I've used the Scarbee Funk Guitarist which works like this, and Session Strings Pro. All of those seem to work fine for me. You should be able to see the switches even in PRV (which seems simpler than event viewer just because they are usually in the lowest octaves).

Correct, Session Strings Pro and Scarbee work fine for articulations, its just Spitfire thats the main culprit (some of which are triggered by velocity)....The resetting volume control is bugging the life out of me today, its now doing it on Evolve.... I'll have a wander over to the NI forums methinks.

Now not happening on a new project with Evolve or Guitar Rig.
I cant for the life of me figure out why some "gremlin" projects trigger this behaviour and others dont. Guess I'll just ride my luck and find workarounds for when it happens.

Its probably unrelated, but just for good measure... Do you have the Zero Controllers preference toggled on or off? http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation/default.aspx?Doc=SONAR X3&Lang=EN&Req=Dialogs2.068.html
