Sonar continually freezing

I am working on a song that includes soft synths (BFD and VSL).  The problem is that when I start to play the song, the transport line gets stuck while the song continues to play and the stop button no longer responds.  It has become impossible to work in this song.  I disabled the synths but still have the same issue.  My specs are:

Sonar 8.5.3
INtel Quad core i7 processor 2.67Ghz, 6GB RAM, 64 bit windows 7, soundcard Maudio 2496 with latest 64 bit driver

I have tried the Maudio 64bit ASIO driver, ASIO4ALL, and wdm/KS with no improvement.  Also within these drivers I have pklayed with buffer size.  Anything below 256 creates crackles.  Settings higher than 512 tend to create drop outs.

PLEASE can anyone help?

Can anyone help?

Since it continues to play I would conclude something else but audio and soundcard. I may not be the best brand and drivers since you have a pretty strong machine and cannot go below 256 but that's another story.

I would have a closer look at latest drivers for graphics card.

I updated the graphic card driver yesterday.  No improvement.  The ASUS site tell me that there is an update for my motherboard.  However I am a little scared to mess with the MB as I am not a pro.

I love the invention of the DAW but I hate the fact that I virtually need a phd in computer science to capture a measly love song!  I just want to play music!

Is your computer built by a professional daw builder?
More expensive, but someone to turn to when it fails.

Just buying a stock computer is not all it takes.

Updating bios and chipset firmware on motherboard is quite harmless nowadays. I wouldn't hesitate doing it.

Just don't turn off main power until finished.

Are the plugins x64 versions as well?
Otherwise they will use a bridge like Bitbridge to run as 32-bit and that could very well be a lot of issues with these.

I had some issues with GUI visible on plugins.
Make a try closing GUI for plugins during playback to narrow problem area down.

If running bitbridge I would try jbridge which cost a few dollars. Easy to use in Sonar and just put a check in PluginManager in Sonar. Some plugins run better with jbridge.

Yes I have a few 32 bits that are using jbridge.  The only thing is that I am having the issue without any synths inserted.
