Sonar does not need Automation Track?
It seems Sonar is the only DAW that doesn't have automation track. Do you ever feel that automation track is needed when drawing and editing automation data in Sonar? I'm desperately needed.

I'm not saying moving the automation data to another track through Synth Tab. I need seperate automation track per parameter.

I haven't used tracks or lanes but doesn't the edit filter achieve the same goal? With your chosen parameter selected you have a track solely for drawing that particular automation. Am I missing something about tracks/lanes? Genuine question BTW.

I can see why people would like the option, yes. It's easier to look at and see what you've done.

Am I missing something about tracks/lanes? Genuine question BTW. Yes that's what I've been doing. But when it comes to several automation data, it's hard to select certain autoamtion by Shift Clicking. Because other automation sometims obscure automation I want! Via edit filter? Yes I can choose them without problem but the plugins I use have tons of parameter and it's very painful to find the parameter I want. The easiest way of doing this is just click W, and record movement in realtime, go to Track view, and re-edit it precisely meticulously I want. Beside editing automation is not flexible than any other DAW. It's worst!!! alt click and drag, it seems fine when I watched the tutorial by cakewalk. In reality I have to focus on my mouse position to precisely click the automation line. Sometimes I need Snap the automation node but I don't even know node is snaped or not when I moving it evne though snap setting is on the High. Also it's hard to see and fit into Time Ruler 'MBT' above the track view when it comes to automation editing. Just complaining sorry if I was rude

Plus I wish I could draw automation like Envelope module from Rapture and Dimension Pro. and 'Perfect' snap option in the Snap to grid tab in the preference menu. next to the 'hard' option

insert a bus track....be careful to have” All”...up, on trackview...then go to the bus strip and click on the arrow near ”none” there you can assign various automatiton lines...as you desire...if you want to edit a specific automation line...use again that arrow...you can have as much as you want automation lines in the same track but only that that is enabled is editable...the others remaines in background. you can work and edit very fast with that sistem...

on the track view on the first line....after bus name window...mute, solo and wave buttons there is another window where is written by default ”none”..also with a little down arrow...click on that arrow and you will see all the automation posibilities

the busses automation will only automate the parameters on the track, not any synths with the audio routed to it, the edit filter is where the automation is assigned, no separate track/lane (like cubase/fl studio) for automation, unless you want to create multiple midi tracks routed to the one synth, to automate one parameter at a time

if you have to automatize all parameters of a soft synth insert one...as instrument track, then enter on the ”clips” window....and down on the list you will find all parameters ready to be automatised graphically

I find it time consuming to select parameters using the Edit Filter menu, as it shows all parameters, and just a colored box next to the ones that are in use. It's a lot of scrolling and searching as some synths have hundreds of parameters. I would like the Edit Filter to actually *filter* out and only show the parameters that are automated. :)

If you need an extra lane for a soft synth just add another midi track and point its output at the existing synth. Then use this new track to add envelopes etc. In fact you can add several midi tracks if you need to keep things separated.

I can create MIDI automation(not synth parameters but basic PitchBend and Mod Wheel, controller number and channel etc.) by choosing MIDI option under the MIDI automation menu via Edit Filter of MIDI track. Then route the output to the synth. But it doesn't have abillity to automate output synth. Even Channel 1 Controller 1 which is Modulation wheel doesn't work Anyway thnx to you

You can get to the synth parameters if it uses other cc rpn or nrpn control codes you just need to figure out what they are.

So what is the answer then? If you have a track per automation data surely after about 5 or so tracks it becomes un-manageble doesn't it? As I see it you have all available on one track (a la previous versions) or you have some way of selecting the data you want to work on (a la X1), Someone want to enlighten me to a useful alternative?

Ableton does it quite nicely. You have a bunch of lanes dangling off the bottom of each track, which you can easily show or hide. I don't think it's a superior approach, particularly, but it is different.

Tried to quote you but Firefox would not allow it. Anyway once you have the new midi track and the envelopes created you will need to make sure that read automation is turned on for the new midi track. If the new envelopes are not fighting with parameter data from the original midi track this should work.
