Sonar feature requests
I know we have the wishlist threads and feature request form, and I've posted in them, but I think if we really want to get Cakewalk's attention, we have to keep on making noise, otherwise the sense of urgency is not conveyed. So here we go again.
First of all, I want to say that one of the features I begged for was finally addressed--it was the improved MIDI editing tools. A big thank you to Cakewalk for that--they went above and beyond. So that's one down, and 7 more to go...
Other features I'm dying to see in Sonar:
Better envelop tools - Selecting envelop nodes right now is too unpredictable. Often you accidentally select more than one or all the nodes when you only want to select one, or it's hard to deselect accidentally selected nodes. We could also use a node set memory where you can specify nodes to reselect later--kinda like the clipboard in Windows--list of memorized node sets to choose from. I use envelops extensively and sometimes it just drives me insane.
Better plugin management - Just buy MenuMagic (agitatedstate.com) and develop it further, or redesign the whole thing. The fact that a 3rd party software for Sonar like MenuMagic even exists is proof that we need a better plugin management system.
Faster/Easier pianoroll navigation via Photoshop’s Spacebar grabber tool Having to use the scroll bars to get around in the pianoroll is just too clunky--that's two separate bars we have to click and move to get to one location. Look at Photoshop's grabber tool--just hold down spacebar and then move the entire canvas in any direction.
Ability to add more folders to organize tracks as user sees fit. Now more than ever we need to organize our tracks. Let us add as many layers of folders as we need to keep our projects organized. A typical use would be something like:
[Strings]
---[Violins]
------[First Violins]
---------[Muted]
---------[Tremolo]
---------[Legato]
------[Second Violins]
---------[Spiccato]
---------[Pizzicato]
Ability to assign shortcut hotkeys to markers - So we can quickly navigate to specific markers easily.
Locking down UI layout sets - Once we save layout sets, have them totally locked down and when we recall them, they will restore completely. Right now if we change display orientation or resolution, it'll totally screw up the toolbar arrangement, and even if we restore back to the original orientation or resolution and recall the saved layout, it will not restore comletely and still be messed up.
Corresponding note on pianroll when pressed When we play a note on a MIDI controller, the corresponding note is shown on the pianoroll--either a different color or different shade.
Chase MIDI notes - When Now Time is place at a beat in the middle of long held MIDI notes, we can't hear the notes and we must place the Now Time at the beginning of the long MIDI notes. This wastes time when we're working because we're forced to have to listen to the long MIDI notes until we get to the spot we really need to work on. There must be a way to chase the long MIDI notes so we can start in the middle of those notes and still hear them?
