Sonar le latency problem

Hi, I just bought a roland quad capture interface which came bundled with sonar X1 le.
I bought it mainly for recording audio for youtube cover videos.
I wanted to play along to a recording so I imported the file however when I play along and record myself although I am playing in time when I play it back my playing is out of sync with the audio I am assuming this is some sort of latency problem however I am completely new to recording and couldn't find any other info on this subject as most other posts were midi related however i am using a mic in front of a guitar amp. Any help would be appreciated as I have been mucking around for hours now with no success and am starting to get very frustrated haha.
Thanks, and Happy New Year!

To avoid latency, if the audio/interface (Roland unit) has ASIO drivers, use them to record, and not Windows drivers whatever by setting Sonar to ASIO drivers in the Menu item Audio (if it is still the same - I have an older version slightly).

    Welcome to the forum.
Make sure that the Roland and SONAR are using the same sampling rate and bit depth.
Press P on the computer keybaord to bring up SONAR's preferences to see what it's set to. Check the interface's settings and change one of them to match the other.
    Good luck!

Thanks a lot guys it's fixed! I hadn't selected the asio drivers I had installed them but not selected them (didn't know you had to). Much better, thanks again.

Another thing to keep in mind is always track with all your efxs bins bypassed. Some efxs add latency to your system. This is not an issue with playback but can throw you off while tracking.
