Sonar no loger recognizes Quad Capture Soundcard

Ok here goes.

Been using sonar X1 for a couple of years now with no problem. All of a sudden it's telling me no audio devices are connected and silent busses detected. Im using a roland quad capture which has updated drivers and is working with well with other programs.

It has completely disappeared from the playback record audio settings and has disappeared from every box in settings. Its suddenly like it never existed. I haven't changed any settings

Total mystery?????

Please Help ????????

I would do a reinstall of the quad capture's drivers (disconnect the quad capture first).

I had a similar problem with my Octa-capture and reinstalling the drivers fixed the problem.

Interesting... I have had strange issues occur in the past couple of weeks with my Roland OctaCapture and Sonar X3e.

Until recently everything was working flawlessly, but I've had similar issues to you where Sonar seems to not see the Roland sound card, though mine has occurred a few times during playback where the sound disappears.

My guess is that this isn't a Sonar issue, so it's either a Roland driver or ... Perhaps we are victims of some recent Winfows update?

I am running Windows 8.1. What version of the OS do you have and do you install the latest windows updates?

Have you used it since you upgraded to Windows 8.1? I know 8.1 killed my UM-3G interface (even though it worked with 8.0) and I had to get the 8.1 driver from Cakewalk. Fortunately, they had one.

Yes, it had been working fine under Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. And it still does most of the time. But just recently (about two weeks) I've had more issues than the entire period beforehand. I actually switched from ASIO mode to WDM and it seems more stable, but I wouldn't say that is a definitive solution.

Thanks Guys. I think reinstalling the driver for the quad capture could be the way forward. Interesting point about windows update. The problem did start shortly after a dreaded windows update.

One strange thing though. Ive managed to get it to recognize the roland again and get sound by changing from asio to wdm? This is odd as its been running as asio for 2 years. Doing it this way has given me sound back but with more audio dropouts.

    Any Thoughts???

This is interesting. Apparently a Windows update in July caused some people issues with their sound:

Note that this does not mention Roland Soundcards; also the time of the update is earlier (July) than when I/we started experiencing a few issues (this month). But it goes to show how something outside of Sonar and Roland might be at play here.

Like you I've been having a better time with WDM over ASIO recently, but I'd like to return to ASIO because it was better overall before.

Your Right. Definitely sounds like something outside of roland or sonar. Thanks for sharing that. It helps give me a better idea of where to look for the source of the problem.

Maybe a Windows System Restore is worth a try. Looks like there were three different updates that occurred on my system during November

Sometimes switching to WDM mode and running the audio utility that Sonar does on start up of MME and WDM mode will often resolve cranky driver behavior. Now just switch back to ASIO.
I do this when ever I install Sonar and run for the first time. I'll run in WDM mode just to have that audio analyzer do it's thing. Then swicth to ASIO mode.

You might want to check your USB cable is not faulty.. wiggle it.
Or that you are not using a USB port that falls asleep. ( power saving feature)
And if the problem becomes that Sonar keeps switching to your on board sound card then I would try disabling the on board audio in device manager. Also read Craig Andertons tips and look for the part about Video cards and audio.
