Sonar not playing nice with Guitar Rig 5

In my experience, Sonar crashes a LOT when running Guitar Rig. It's OK with the more conventional presets, but once I start getting into some of the wackier presets that use 10% or more of the CPU, Sonar will just crash after a few seconds. It doesn't freeze or hang, it just shuts down.

Now I know I don't have the fastest CPU on the block, but these are sounds that I can run in the standalone Guitar Rig for hours without problems. And the project that's crashing right now is in its infancy and has a very small CPU footprint so far. I also had no such problem with Guitar Rig in Pro Tools (and that was 32-bit).

I'm beginning to wonder if this was the reason why Cakewalk dropped Guitar Rig for TH2!

I have a high end machine, 16 gig ram, ssd's for drives, an an audiophil soundcard (creative thd)... and I have observed the exact thing you are mentioning. I have not tried to diagnose by shutting off parts of the effects within GR 5. At some point I will take the time to do that. Fortunately about 90% of the presets work ok.

I use the "Wackier" sounds quite a bit, and usually have several instances of GR5 in a project, and have not seen the issues you describe.

Can't think straight off what might be causing this.  I guess it's not CPU as flameout is experiencing the same.  I'll have a think..

Do you have latest version of GR5?

Please one or more of you guys, list some of the presets that are displaying this behavior.  I do not yet have any problems with GR5 and X2.

    Thanks,

Can't think offhand which presets are causing it....but one I do remember is one of my favorites, Granular Sparkle. It tends to be the special-effect style presets that use huge effects chains and use 15%+ of my CPU. Usually, the high CPU footprint is related to an instance of the Reflektor reverbs.

I had some GR5 crashes going on as well for a while, even though it had been working fine for some time previously. I read in a post elsewhere that another user had uninstalled and reinstalled GR5 due to a similar issue and that seemed to solve it. So I tried that, and in my case it worked for me. So that's a thought. It wasn't as bad as I thought to run the reinstall.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Been a Guitar Rig user since v2, and can't say I've had issues, but make sure:

    You have the latest version.
Make sure your Sample Rate is the same as Sonar (I use 96\24bit).

I'll try the patches mentioned when I get time.
