Sonar only activates audio driver when playing

I'm using the Jackrouter ASIO audio driver in Sonar for routing audio between apps in Win7 x64.  Sonar shows the appropriate ports in the I/O dropdowns, but in the Jack connection dialog the ports are only instantiated when I press play in Sonar.  At that point I can setup the connections and everything works.  But it all goes away when I stop the transport.

I there a way to tell Sonar to keep the audio drivers active?

[edit]

I think I solved this right after posting.  I set up a saved patchbay in qjackctrl which defines the routing and applies it whenever the ports are instantiated.  So even if they only exist briefly they get the routing.

Yes,  in preferences - Playback and recording, make sure share drivers with other programs is unchecked.
Also not sure which version of SONAR you have but in X3 the "always stream audio through FX" may also have some bearing on this. If its on the ASIO device is always active since SONAR will keep streaming alive when there are fx in the project that are part of the signal path.
