Sonar or Cubase?
I would like to know between Sonar and Cubase, which one is better? I talked to someone (a recording studio owner)who lives overseas, and when I asked him what sofware he uses for recording in his studio, he said Cubase 5. I don't know if he said so because he never heard about Sonar, or because Cubase is better than Sonar? I want to send him a new software for his recording studio, but I want to send him the best one. Your help will be appreciated.

I'd like to by an ice cream to my girl friend. Which one is better: mango-melon or rum-raisin? No peronal preferences, please: only the objective, incontrovertible truth will do. Kind regards, wb

I would like to know between Sonar and Cubase, which one is better? what flavor ice cream to you prefer? Chocolate or vanilla. Think of chocolate as sonar and vanilla as cubase and then ask yourself what you like better and you'll have YOUR answer as to which one is better for YOU I want to send him a new software for his recording studio, but I want to send him the best one. Your help will be appreciated. Umm sonar nor cubase will make your recording better. Only you can make that happen. and when I asked him what software he uses for recording in his studio, he said Cubase 5. I don't know if he said so because he never heard about Sonar, or because Cubase is better than Sonar? and most use pro tools, so maybe he's an idiot.. or maybe HE didnt want to pay 20 grand for pro tools. just because someone uses something, doesn't mean its better. I use fender guitars mostly, does that mean there better, No, its just means i like them more than the others.. Cj

ORIGINAL: LOSANO I would like to know between Sonar and Cubase, which one is better? Better in what way? If he has learnt his Cubase well and uses a genuine copy (not cracked or patched), let him keep using it. Otherwise ‘educate’ him on the options or alternatives but do not try too hard. ORIGINAL: LOSANO I want to send him a new software for his recording studio, but I want to send him the best one. If your friend is looking for new software he is already using the latest version of Cubase. Asking such a question on Sonar forum is ‘tricky’ but some Sonar users may also be using Cubase or moved away from it. Visit Cubase website and look around though. Good luck.

Thanks you all for your input, I've really appreciated it. As far as I am concerned, I prefer Sonar over Cubase, for I used to use Cubase 4, and It was kind of a little bit complicated for me to master, so I switched to Sonar. I like my ice cream cover with chocolate Thanks.

I would like to know between Sonar and Cubase, which one is better? Because you posed this question on the SONAR forum, you are obviously going to get a preponderance of pro-SONAR replies. Post the same question on the Cubase forum and you will get the opposite opinion. The fact that we all use SONAR should make our preference obvious. Both applications are equally capable of making a high-quality record. Both, of course, are also perfectly capable of producing a steaming pile of crap. Your expertise and experience are vastly more important than the choice of DAW software. Although the two products are similar in functionality, there is one important difference between the two companies. One is arrogant and dismissive toward their customers, the other is responsive and respectful of theirs. Guess which is which.

Cubase needs a dongle. Sonar doesn't. Cubase is hard to pronounce. Sonar isn't. What the heck is a Cubase anyway? Is it like a cucumber and a bass guitar mashed together?

I actually use both. Pros and cons on both sides. Sonar's notation is ludicrous and VST expression is not even on the radar (or should I say sonar? :) ) But Sonar is easier to use, has a better audio engine, no dongle and it'a a lot friendlier to those of us who use a 64-bit OS.

Well I have C5 too, and what made me change was the fact working without a dongle, I do a lot of studio and stage stuff.. and Sonar´s sound is just better 4 my ears! as always it´s matter of taste, and people say Sonar´s GUI isn´t up to date, but working with Cubase give´s me the feeling of playing a computergame, so many colors, no real customization.. Audio Snap is very cool! the network with Intel and being a Windows only app will be interesting for the future, I think wit W 7 we will se a very stable and good performing setup with Sonar, moving to 64bit.. let´s wait and see, in between make good music..

i've used them all, and Sonar 7 (which i find to be much more stable than 8PE) is better than everything out there. except for Inuendo. it has more options and flexibility, and better sound quality than anything out there. it also costs over $1000 USD, while 8PE was a couple hundred, so....

Let me put it to you this way. I have used Cubase in various versions dating back to 1997 starting with Cubasis & then finally Cubase SX. I made the switch to Sonor last year, and I have found the layouts, menu's, setups, etc... so much more easily laid out & quicker to get to in the reasonably short time I've been using it. In fact, I transferred all raw tracks + midi files over & un-installed Cubase just last week. I'm running completely in Sonor now. Beyond that, it's just like everyone said. It may not sound any different, but your workflow efficiency may increase considerably.

If I have to answer and it's only going to be the objective truth then: Sonar LE is a lot better than Cubase LE! When it comes to the full fledged versions they are both very competent and it's more or less impossible to write an answer that is not biased through personal prefereces. I prefer Sonar and that's why I bought it and not Cubase (but I actually think lots of peolpe buy Cubase, or worse PT LE, because they know of the name and have heard other people use it...).
Sadly very reduced studio equipment as it is... ASUS G750J, 8 gb RAM, Win8, Roland Quad Capture.

I don't know. Is it KOObase or Keeooobase? Or is it Keeeooo-baaahh-say? Or Ku-ba-say? Being a German company, I would expect the proper pronunciation to be "Koo-bah'-say". Why it's not spelled with a "K", though, is beyond me. Maybe Native Instruments had already copyrighted that spelling.

I've been using CW products for about 50 years now (ok, just since the early DOS days! ), but I still like seeing what others are doing. I heard a lot about Cubase's MIDI editing a while back and wanted to check it out. One of the forum members was kind enough to send me a demo disk, but I couldn't even run that unless I purchased a dongle first. No, thank you. I think it only helps improve our preferred DAW if we know what others are doing so we can offer the best as FRs. The FLS PRV comes to mind, and Image-Line has always made a demo freely available. Thanks- -Susan Oh, BTW, another +1 for SONAR!
