you say you have the presonus fire studio ASIO drivers, but are you in ASIO driver mode?

if so, click on the ASIO button in the OPTIONS>AUDIO window and that will bring up your presonus software.  you might need to decrease your hardware buffers if you're getting dropout.

what is your reported latency on that window?

Presonus uses Dice FW chipsets and they can be problematic for pc's. There great for mac's. you need to make sure yuo have a TI FW chipset in your pc or yuoll have problems in most cases. Dice II FW chipsets need a TI FW card.

Trial and error is the only way to find the optimal settings for your DAW. There is no majic setting that we all know. Its trial and erro with driver modes and trial and error with WDM and ASIo buffers and trial and error with I/O playback and recoridng timing masters

Start with the lowest and bump it up in small incrememts untill it performs well for that project
