Sonar playing quicktime files with k lite codec pack

Hi folks,
I saw an older forum post here: [link=http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2233151&mpage=3]http://forum.cakewalk.com...?m=2233151&mpage=3[/link]
One member posted that they were able to play .mov files in Sonar 64 bit after installing the K-Lite codec pack.

Has anyone else had any luck with this?

I currently have to convert any QuickTime files to AVI before I can play them in Sonar and would love to just be able to import the QuickTime file as that's the file type I get sent to me most often. I can open these files in Vegas, so it obviously has to do with a codec or video wrapper that allows it to play in Vegas.

I just wanted to ask if anyone else has had any luck with this. I'm always a little reluctant to install video codec packs.
Thanks
FD

I have installed the K lite pack a few times and it is fine. Seems to make things play that didn't play before with VLC player.
When you install it there are plenty of options to toggle unwanted install of different parts.

Thanks John, are you on Sonar X1 or X2 by chance?

Thanks very much! I'm on X1d. I think I'll try the shark 007. Would you say it's any better than the k lite?

I really just need to deal with QuickTime files, MP4 etc. inside of Sonar.

Can it be installed right on top of whatever default codecs come with windows 8? Would I need to uninstall anything first?

I believe Shark gives more codecs. I have found the quality is good too.
