Sonar recovery file won't delete

I'm trying to delete a Sonar Recovery file ...while performing audio clean up the process hangs on this file and the action is stopped.
I've tried deleting normally ...it says the file doesn't exist...but it does.
Also tried deleting from CMD ...getting into the DIR and typing DEL for the file brings up...The system cannot find the file..
Also have tried Unlocker ...this doesn't find anything locking the file.
Tried making a New folder and dragging it into it...
Tried renaming file ....
It stubbornly won't go...
I'm using WINDOWS 7
Anyone else had this problem and fixed it ?

Sometimes a file will appear in Windows Explorer after deletion. Have you hit F5 while looking at that folder? Does it still appear then?

The only thing that often happens to lock a file is that an application has flagged it open for editing. Worst case a reboot should cure that, but if the application is closed is usually all that is required.

    A few ideas...

If you've not already done so, try rebooting to ensure nothing has a lock on the file then see if the file is still there in Windows Explorer. If it is open a CMD as administrator (right click on the CMD icon to get that option) and see if it can be deleted now.

Check the drive for errors then reboot and see if the file that's there and not there has gone away.

A drastic but certain way to get rid of the file is to make a back up on another drive of everything on that drive/partition and then format it. Not possible if it's the system drive/partition though.

It's not impossible that you've hit the 256 characters maximum length of the path to a file, in which case in my experience if you can't drag it to somewhere with a shorter path and delete it from there. reformatting might well be the only way to get rid of it.

Thanks for your help...I I'll try these other options and post the result .

I have a feeling it's going to be the "nuclear option" of transferring all data apart from the rogue file from the drive (which is not the system drive ) and formatting ...

Is it possible that this file went to "virtualstore"? Have a look in your folder C:\Users\<yourLogin\AppData\Local\VirtualStore. See if there is a folder in there that could have your phantom file, possibly "Program Data". The AppData folder under your login is a hidden folder, so you might have to enable "show hidden" if it isn't already.
