Sonar reinstall (8.0 to X3) on new pc
My win 7, sonar 8.5 pc broke down in the summer. I just now got a new pc and will be reinstalling sonar. I have as follows in the cakewalk store: Sonar 8 studio (also boxed) Sonar8.5 studio Sonar 8.5 producer (also boxed) Sonar X1 producer Sonar X1 expanded Sonar X2 producer Sonar X3 producer A number of questions to my old not so bright mind before I start. 1. I thought I would just sequentially install each of the downloads from the store (not the boxed). Would that be correct? I have been using 8.5 because of my old pc, but once I am finished with my backed up projects (5 or more), I will move my future recording to X3. 2. Do the store versions include the latest updates e.g. Sonar 8.53 or will I have to find them online and install before going on to the next? 3. I see I have 3 versions of Rapture and Dimension Pro in the store. would I just pick one, probably the latest and install? Thanks so much for any help. This is all a monumental task for me as it (pc work) is not really my cup of tea anymore and I truly appreciate any and all help.

All X-series and older version need updates which are available in the knowledge base. If you made any projects with the DX versions of DPro or Rapture and still need to open those projects, you will need to install those plug-ins from the original disk. DPro in DX format was bundled with 8.5. Rapture DX format was a separate purchase. The serial numbers changed between the DX and VST releases. Installing the DX format requires the old serial numbers. The VST versions of the these plug-ins bundled with X-Series Producer are the same. Keeping the original DX and VST versions of these plug-ins is tricky to install but can be done. It is probably easier to keep the DX plug-ins and update them using the patches in the knowledge base when trying to retain for formats. IIRC, the updates that drop DX support also try to remove the plug-ins so make sure to copy the DX plug-ins to a safe place before running the updates.

All right, thanks! If it weren't for you guys, I wouldn't even have remembered the updates except 8.53. So I will look for them in the knowledge base. Extremely helpful! Right now the info about DX versions is flying above me, but I'll dig in tomorrow and get to work on this. I also have pretty detailed notes during my original installs to help me through. Is there any difference between using the CD version and the store download? Again, many thanks!

robbyk Is there any difference between using the CD version and the store download?
Not really. The disks for X3 are slightly older than the download but the differences were made up with the first patch. FWIW, there is no need to download all the patches. For example, all the patches for X3 are cumulative so only the last (X3e) is needed. Save some time, read the patch requirements from most recent to oldest to see what the requirements are.

Oh good to know, the last patch is cumulative, great point!
