Sonar update not working [SOLVED]
I've been trying for a few weeks to update sonar but I've been unsuccessful. My current version of sonar is 2016.06(22.6.0.26) Command Center says the new version available is 2016.07(22.7.0.41) when I try to update, it goes through all of the pop windows asking if I want to install basic/advanced and 64/32bit , accept the license agreement, etc, and then it downloads the file and then it starts EXTRACTING. but it gets stuck at about 40% through extraction and will not continue no matter how long I wait (I've waited up to an hour before). I can't even CANCEL. the button is there, but it does nothing. to cancel I have to either restart the computer or kill the process in task manager. this is repeatable EVERY time. I'm running win7x64, I am connected to the internet, my command center version is 1.1.6.2 even tho I am administrator on this machine and I've deactivated security, I still tried to run as admin also, and the same thing happens. and now when I try to start sonar, I get this message: if I select YES, sonar will still open and seems to run fine. any ideas how to fix this?

Does the Command Center show running 2016.07? If so, I might just manually run the 2106.07 installer, allowing it to overwrite the current installation. If not, the first thing I would try is rollback and reinstall. Either way, I would reboot immediately before attempting either process.

Yea, the CC can be funky. I've updated a few times and it doesn't act like anything has happened. Either it will work anyway or it will after a re-boot. I've never seen the message that you posted, tho. @
https://soundcloud.com/a-pleasure-dome http://www.bnoir-film.com/ there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

It sure sounds like the Sonar program has updated but the GUI components are from a previous version. Perhaps the D/L fault is related to this. I think all the TTS related files are the graphics resources. When in doubt I follow scook's advice.

I tried downloading and installing directly without using CC, did the same thing. I then tried rolling back 2 versions, installed that, opened it, restarted the machine, then opened CC and tried to update to the latest version. same thing any other suggestions?

Does rolling back work? I ask because it must perform the same extract process. Is there a message wait for reply hidden somewhere or maybe an entry in the Windows Event log? A couple of things to try clear the temp folder and disable antivirus.

You might try - CHKDSK or disc utilities

Delete the newest version of sonar setup from the DL for CC and start over with CC. I believe you have a corrupted file.

rolling back worked above. after I tried to go from the previous version to the current version the same thing happened above. then I tried uninstalling sonar and reinstalling sonar. now none of the versions will install. they all get stuck at the extracting files point. now I'm really hosed. there's not a hidden window. I checked by using ATL TAB turning off AV didn't help windows event viewer: each time it locks up trying to extract, windows gives an error report saying sonar platinum setup stopped interacting with windows and was closed. to see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in Security and Maintenance control panel. looked in the security and maintenance control panel - there was nothing except "turn your AV back on" now I can't even run sonar at all.

I have deleted ALL files in the download area of CC and am now attempting to reinstall. new files are downloading now. I'll let you know how it goes.

rename the SONAR Platinum folder (where the SONARPLT.exe is installed), then rerun the installer

sonar isn't installed anywhere right now. I uninstalled it. however, I tried renaming the Sonar Platinum folder anyway and tried installing again. no luck. exact same thing.

no, I didn't do you know which ones I need to remove or do I just search on "sonar?"

It might be worthwhile trying to update/repair the Microsoft C++ Redistributables to see if those might have something to do with it.
When I encounter strange problems in Windows, my first step (after having checked the Event Viewer for some obvious error messages) is to update all of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables that displays a Change button when being focused in the Control Panel's list of installed programs. Clicking the Change button for each of those files will open a dialogue with an option to Repair. After having run Repair for each of those files, the problem has been fixed surprisingly often.

You may have hit on the problem, but I don't seem to be able to fix it. I have tried to repair some of the MS C++ redistributables and when I click on repair, it pops up a window stating that it's "initializing" but the progress bar never moves.

abacab Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) from the Adminstrator Command prompt yet? sfc /scannow https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833
I tried it, but it did not find any "integrity violations" thanks for the suggestion.

Well, it looks like you have eliminated Sonar files, folders, and Windows system files... If it was my PC, I would probably be looking for a recent Restore Point right about now. Sounds like something maybe, could be, a little flaky in the registry. Especially since that C++ redistributables repair did not execute.

Because I can't recall seeing this sort of thing in the past. I think its time to try a virus scan and maybe malware using malwarebytes https://www.malwarebytes.com . I wish I had an answer for you.

sorry, I had tried that even earlier than posting the OP but didn't mention it. I keep the malwarebytes on my system. so, my closest restore point was over 5 weeks away and it affected several programs, but I did the restore point and currently I'm running sonar again. it seems to have defaulted back to the dull gray color instead of the theme I had on it, but at least it appears to be working and I can load my latest project save from this morning. after restoring, I verified sonar was working, then I created another restore point. then I opened the CC (which I had not done previously, I had only opened sonar directly). CC wanted to update to the newest version. I did not let it, not knowing if that was what had caused my problem to begin with or not. CC still opened with the old version and still allowed me to run the update to the newest sonar! and it is now updated to version 2016.07(22.7.0.41) AND it restored my theme when I updated sonar! so I'm marking this one solved, even tho I don't know the root cause, at least it is resolved and I have my sonar back! P.S. - John, Shirely you didn't think a problem of MINE was going to be EASY did ya??

Well Beagle when the old guard has a problem it often is a tough one. Otherwise it would have already been fixed. I am glad it is working for you. But notice the help at your disposal. Members jumping over themselves trying to figure out a solution. I think that speaks volumes.
