Sonar will not share drivers

I cannot seem to find any help on this issue. I am using Sonar 8.0. Back when I used a Tascam usb audio interface, I could share drivers. In other words, I could hear the studio mic in Sonar while the program was minimized, and play a karaoke file at the same time in VLC player. This allowed me to record my vocals while being able to see video lyrics. Tascam uses its own ASIO drivers.

Presently I am not using the Tascam. I simply have a mic plugged into the built in soundcard (realtek). And using the ASIO4ALL driver to get low latency. It works like a charm. But I cannot share the drivers with other players. I have checked and unchecked and checked the setting. But it doesnt seem to work anymore. I am guessing here that there are some exceptions to how Sonar shares drivers. Possibly ASIO4ALL?

There must be something that will make this work.

Thanks!

    ASIO doesn't share.

Other drivers will share but not ASIO.

I don't use ASIO4ALL but I'd assume it's designed to work the same way as ASIO... it wraps the MME driver in some code to make it appear and act like ASIO.....even though it's not.

Using the factory card isn't the best option but if it's all you have for now I guess you gotta use it. An interface running native ASIO of course is the best bet.  But again....ASIO doesn't share.

If you have NATIVE ASIO..... load Sonar first and it grabs the ASIO drivers. Then when you load the other porgrams they will use the MME drivers and several can share it.

For now, go into the other players and see if they can use some other driver rather than the default. IF ASIO4ALL grabs MME and makes it act like ASIO and therefore is unavailable to the other programs, perhaps you can switch them to WDM.
