I think there are some long-running issues with the staff view in Sonar.

It seems to me that you might benefit from writing in something other than Sonar, such as that free notation program from Finale (stripped down of course from their full-featured version) - and then import the files into Sonar.

    Just a thought,

I owned a very early version of Cakwalk which already had staff view.  Around the time of Cakewalk 9, I was probably using something else.

Aside from some staff tool icons missing in X1 / X2, I don't believe the basics of staff view have changed at all since the days of Cakewalk - that's what all us staff view supporters are complaining about.
It's probably that the method to accomplish specific action is a little different in X1.

Check the manual, I believe everything is still there - it's just that it may now by a keyboard shortcut, versus mouse clicking on something.

Give a specific example of something you are trying to do, and I'm sure their are plenty of staff view users who can help you out.

Cakewalk 9 and Sonar X1 are entirely different programs. You will have to start over and learn from scratch. We all had to when going from Sonar 8.5 to X1. In your case your coming from a program that is over 10 years old. Go sit in a comfy chair, put your legs up and start reading :(
