Sonar x1 producer (64bit) driver problem.

Hi, old time cakewalk user here.
Haven't done any recording for a while but have a fairly new computer.

win 7 pro 64bit
intel quad q8200 2.33ghz
ram 4 gig

My onboard device wasn't cutting it so I put in a S012 5.1 sweex sound-card (C-Media). I am so sorry I did now. I see on the web that I should use the MME (32bit) driver config for this card. The sound from that setup is choppy and distorted, unusable. I switched to WDM/KS and that worked for a while then that also crunched. I have since learned my new soundcard is quite crap for what Sonar requires and I will probably have to install a new card which unfortunately means a reconfig of my workstation. I have updated the driver and the application, tried asio4all and pretty much every setting I could find. Starting sonar with shift depressed doesn't help. I am not a pro but use the DAW for my own hobby numbers and occasionally sound editing. It's like bringing a canon to a knife fight, but what th heck, I love the instruments and the editor.

Any help getting my current config going much appreciated, it's been a long frustrating day.
Cheers
